Make these reviews on the edge of paololimitism... Not bad. :-) Hi

'75, to be precise. Yes, this indicates its reliability in the early days, but on the other hand, it showed little foresight in judging figures who were far from finishing their careers. Over and out. Bye :-)

Sure, this much is true: Polillo doesn't claim to be an all-knowing expert, he has thousands, billions of times more credibility than Scaruffi; however, in these magnum works, there is an inherent risk of a certain absolutism stemming from the desire to summarize an entire genre in three hundred pages or so (that’s how long the first part, the history of jazz, lasts), ultimately giving rather "definitive" judgments on people like, indeed, Hancock. So: it's probably not a problem of PoLillo himself, but rather the dark side of the very structure of a work that, on the other hand, is commendable. Bye :-)

"Anyway, no one invented the free-jazz detector" :-); I agree with Trickykid, it should be read at least once in a lifetime, although it does suffer a bit from rough patches; tricky, is it perhaps that paradoxically we think that part is better because it’s the period we don’t know much about? Hi P.s.: we needed a nice discussion about jazz...

Thank you all so much, too kind! :-) @morningstar: I instead consider "The egg" a moment close to the "free jazz" instances. Revisiting Polillo's book, I noticed that at the beginning he even pairs "Freedom suite now" by Roach with "Free jazz" by Coleman, and I don't entirely agree (of course, this is just my humble opinion): while the connection is obvious due to the political motivations driving both musicians, the music itself isn’t as similar; as much as Coleman's work is truly "free" and abstract, Roach's is expressive, powerful, and clear. Now, I find "The egg," or at least much of it, closer to Coleman's abstract sound, hence the addition of "free jazz" to the album's genres. Cheers!

Thank you for the compliments. @ghemison: well, you don’t seem like a newcomer either, with that de-recensoreo background of yours... anyway, I knew that Brescia was a nice reminder. The record is from 1964, intriguing, intriguing...

Great review and an amazing album: for me they practically match the beginnings of the eternal rivals, the Beatles.

An example of how to write a review of an album that wasn't liked. Great

A beautiful, though lengthy review, and what a sample: I only know "Pick up the pieces" by them, I will look for the album in question. Bye
