Supersoul, that's fine, but many times it happens that someone criticizes an album recognized by most as a masterpiece and gets bombarded with a tide of insults, most of them violent and exaggerated. It's clear that there are no employers here on DeBaser, thank goodness, otherwise I wouldn't have even signed up. Also, I didn't give the review a 5, I partly agreed, not with everything; I also don't share many of the things that were written.

Zappa's influence is definitely present, but there are other elements that characterize this album (Brechtian cabaret, echoes of the Velvet Underground, some dodecaphony). Anyway, I’m quite in tune with the first sentence: lately it’s become increasingly "trendy" to exalt many acclaimed albums as masterpieces by various Scaruffi and other illuminati while denigrating others that are more famous simply because the equation "commercial/famous = crap, whereas alternative = misunderstood masterpiece" is made. And it's an approach that feels very "snobbish." I quite like the album, even if it’s certainly not one of my favorites, but I appreciate the courage of the reviewer for genuinely stating what they think, even though I don't fully agree.

Fantastic reception. I'll vote for the album soon, in the meantime I'm enjoying Daydream Nation, Washing Machine, and Dirty.

Aside from "Through Ebony Archways," which is stunning, the album convinces me less than its successor.
