Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory

HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE IS NOT ARTISTIC IMPORTANCE. EXPERIMENTATION IS NOT ART. I am tired of talking to someone who turns a deaf ear and denies the obvious. Bah...pathetic...

THE FACT THAT IT DOESN'T HOLD UP EITHER WITH YOU OR WITH lUX MEANS IT DOESN'T HOLD UP WITH 2 PEOPLE, NOT WITH AN ENTIRE SQUAD OF CULTURED MUSICIANS WHO KNOW HOW TO MAKE MUSIC. YOU'RE JUST 2...REFLECT.

"Indeed, historically your claims are all justifiable, ours (mine and Lux's) are not, it's obvious... eheheh ;-)"... oh right... it's true... your ideas are not to be challenged... so summarize everything in this line... you're just a fanatic then...! go study, come on! X-D X-D

And let's just say that I am merely a PROGSTER.

I honestly feel disgusted when I see people who have success without even knowing how to hold a guitar! It's depressing when there are people who work harder than I do, for sure, and who don't get the success they deserve! Why? Because today mediocrity is praised! What is simple and straightforward, easily accessible, is judged as original and innovative!

Of course, it's not enough and, as you rightly say, it doesn't serve to just shoot out millions of super-fast notes. It's not vital, but it can be a good means, a good trick as well! It would be like saying that it's unnecessary to embellish an Ionic capital of a Greek column... why embellish it? Why? Perhaps the column doesn't function the same way if it's plain, etc.? So what? A song can't work well even with complexities and tricks that enrich its form? However, the column, to make it FUNCTIONAL, you need to know how to build it! And the same goes for music: to make it of quality, you need to know how to write it!!!!

the conception of music by easy now becomes clearer: the conception and explanation he gives is that of SIMPLE DELIGHT OR SIMPLE PLEASURE, not as ART. because it is impossible to conceive ART as something that can disregard discipline. it would be like having a hockey player play soccer: they would know nothing of the rules of soccer, of the techniques of soccer!..and so it is for musicians: the music that is proposed to us today, with the advent of the damned and cursed grunge, is this: music stuffed with who knows what mystical content but absolutely devoid of qualitative value. it’s pointless to reiterate: Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple made music of immense quality precisely because they fully utilized the means available at the time! with the advent of punk and grunge, music has simplified to the point of having an artistic value of zero.

Is it possible that I have to reiterate that I DO NOT ONLY LISTEN TO ULTRATECHNICAL STUFF? Because let me tell you, besides DT, there are many more virtuosic musicians!!! Easy... in 4 points, you kept reiterating your concepts without evolution and without a renewed and innovative reasoning, not even original since, like good Lux did, you expanded, while you remain in such an obsolete attitude that it becomes annoying. Furthermore, criticism is still based on subjective judgments: how often do we read different reviews in voting and final results?? I went to consult the dictionary to give you a much broader view than your narrow perspective that remains constantly centered on your definition of rock. Continuing to address Lux: yes... I am on the right! But I repeat, enough with saying I'm a progster... because, reading ALL MY REVIEWS, you will understand that I am MUCH more open than you in musical matters. Because easy, let's face it, barely steps out of its rock-psychedelic-garage-pop pen.. etc.! Fortunately, I listen to everything, from metal, to classic rock, to AOR, to the most brutal metal. Politics doesn't matter here: you keep confirming that YOU JUDGE WITHOUT KNOWING. If you had known me, aside from my political views (which I repeat doesn't matter..!), you would have seen that my musical perspective is far too broad, and I certainly don't boast about it!... My vision of discipline and study comes from my experience. Unfortunately, to make quality music you have to study! If I consult a TRUE music critic, he will surely tell me that in terms of historical importance or visionary or experimental music or else, the Pixies are great, undeniable. But he will definitely tell me that ARTISTICALLY, QUALITATIVELY, TECHNICALLY, INSTRUMENTALLY, COMPOSITIONALLY, THEORETICALLY, HARMONICALLY the Pixies are negligible compared to a prog band or a jazz band or a fusion band. Now we are getting worked up against the Pixies; I reiterate that I have nothing against them. But it’s like comparing Nirvana to Symphony X, the Clash to Niacin, etc... I mean, a comparison that does not exist in terms of QUALITY, TECHNIQUE, THEORY, COMPOSITION, etc., and has no reason to exist given the vast difference!

Moreover, your mental closure and total lack of dialogue is evident from the sample you included in the review. That is, the possibly most technical and fastest solo present on the disc (also one of the most difficult in the entire Theaterian production). What sense does it make to include only a sample? Why not include both the technical and melodic parts, to truly demonstrate your point? With that sample, you wanted to show ONLY the inhuman technicality of the musicians. Deliberately, you aimed to convey the idea of mere technicality when we all know that the DT are not just this. So... you're not giving an opinion that attempts to be objective, but you want everyone to be convinced of your idea by blasting them with a furious outburst of notes. It’s logical that one reads the review... hears the sample and says: ONLY TECHNIQUE, PERIOD!!!! Re-reading the review, you first compare Petrucci to Brian May (blasphemy!!! Petrucci is nothing like him) and then to Gilmour (another huge blasphemy). For those who know the DT, we all agree that Petrucci can only be compared to guitarists like Di Meola and Morse, Satriani, or Vai. You say that Portnoy copies from glam, when everyone knows he is a die-hard fan and is inspired by Peart from Rush! Furthermore, get informed... SHINE ON YOUR CRAZY DIAMOND is not present in the album at all... if anything, we find it in Octavarium...! I drop your thesis again, because you also show very little knowledge of Dream Theater and their world and their influences. I'm done.

Easy, in just 4 POINTS, in just 4 POSTS, I've dismantled your thesis against DTs. Of course, you’ll probably appeal to this as well, but remember that I’ve done it in ONLY 4 POSTS. To appeal to this means you have no more weapons to defend yourself with, no arguments left, and you’ll start citing groups from the 60s to prove who knows what. I rely on facts and the words of ITALIANO, articulating an almost mathematical discourse. Now, invent something who knows what. Ah... also... don’t say that you never said who knows what... because in 450 pages of comments, we’ve said a bit of everything and we have mentioned these 4 words multiple times. ayh... also... please... at the end of each of your posts... remove those smiling emojis... they don’t do you honor.
