I also add that the story of the protagonist Hugo is openly compared in the book to that of Prometheus, who, as is well known, is a forerunner/prototype, in classical antiquity, of the figure of Satan in the biblical-Christian tradition. There are too many coincidences to be just coincidences... For someone like me, who is traditionally a "man of the Church," these things clearly have a certain effect. To someone else who isn't, the book will simply be extremely captivating (especially for the illustrations).
