Sparklehorse Someday I Will Treat You Good

I also have unique and special listening experiences with certain albums, born from the magical coincidence of the right environment, circumstances, and surrounding thoughts. The last time this happened was with the latest (highly underrated, even by me at first) album by the Afterhours.

Thinking about it, I lived the musical history of Mark Linkous quite intensely, having seen him perform live two times. It was truly beautiful until he decided to leave us.

I bought it on vinyl in a store in Naples during a Christmas spent around there, it was the mid-seventies. I had just recently (albeit belatedly) discovered prog, and an experienced friend had told me about the bands that started with ca/ka (caravan, camel, kansas)... A captivating, lunar album.

All this clearly mixed and in contrast with the wonderful goliardic spirit, like a village festival, in the style of Al veglione, of Capossela himself in songs like Pettarossa and il matrimonio di Maloservizio.

Really beautiful review, with a splendid opening. Regarding the album, both for its exterior form (the two sides as Capossela calls them) and for the theme of many songs, I see it as a hymn and a rhapsody around the dualistic conception, religious and otherwise, in a version dear to peasant culture, and not just that. I also see clear hints at Gnosticism (the continuous references to the moon and the forces of evil, see the pumminale) in contrast to the sun. To conclude, I would describe it as an album of popular inspiration (especially dust) that is difficult, very difficult, to listen to, and even here I see an oxymoron, dualistic by definition. I think that searching for them could reveal many other secrets, perhaps a bit unsettling for those who believe in satanic practices.

Great review, with a splendid opening. Regarding the album, I emphasize how it represents, in form and often in content (see the pumminale), a hymn to gnostic dualism. As for the music and the songs, I would define the first side (dust)

I'm listening to the album. Sure, it's redundant and self-referential, but there are tracks that are not only literally brilliant but also musically extraordinary (it transitions from Sergio Leone-esque atmospheres to quadrilles like the dance of St. Vitus with great ease). And then there's a lot of blues infused with the traditions of Southern Italy. Of course, it's a record that shows Capossela is mainly concerned with making albums that he enjoys and within which he finds himself.
