Unbelievable, I thought the references to CSN&Y and the Smashing Pumpkins were a bit bold, and everything else too, but take a look at this review: Articoli | SENTIREASCOLTARE I swear I just read it today.

Now I'll respond to you, Josi. Referring back to what you said in your review about Mercury Rev vs Flaming Lips, I agree on the greatness of Yerself Is Steam, which is an "original" and "experimental" album, at least as much as the latter is "common" and "pop." However, I'm not so sure that the Flaming Lips have never done anything at that level of psychedelic experimentation. Perhaps the "ultra-psychedelic" counterpart of the Flaming Lips can be considered Zaireeka. To conclude, I listened to All Is Dream again yesterday, and in some parts, it seemed to me that it really is an album of great suggestion. Will it be a reaction to the listening of the latest one and the disappointment it caused me? At this point, I hope I don't have the same experience with The Secret Migration once the next one is released.

So, let's start with MaledettaPrimavera. The Smashing Pumpkins I'm referring to are definitely not the ones from Bullet with Butterfly Wings (even though the cover of the MR album might suggest otherwise), nor are they the ones from Porcelina. Since you're an expert on SM, I would say they could be the ones from Take me Down, generally speaking, the SM side of James Iha (is that spelled right?). Or perhaps the ones from Blew Away (Pisces Iscariot).

Josi, I had already understood what kind of person you are, and now I have confirmation. There aren’t many who can accept opposing judgments with such balance... As for the album, even though it’s not at all unpleasant, there are parts that almost give me a physical discomfort while listening. Like that part of Vermillion where Donahue seems to sing like Brian Molko of Placebo or that part of My Love, or worse yet, in Moving On where the Mercury Rev (as I’ve already mentioned) sound like the Smashing Pumpkins from Siamese Dream/Mellon Collie. Honestly, I expected better from this album.

Oh my God, what did I write. I’m so sorry. What scathing judgments. This isn’t like me even though the album is indeed a bit constructed. However, one thing doesn’t sit right with me. It’s not fair to say that Dave Fridmann's touches have recently colored the music of The Flaming Lips. Dave Fridmann took his first steps as a producer (just like Donahue did as a songwriter and guitarist) and was a member of the FL; he practically grew up in that gym of free creativity. I quote what is stated in the booklet included with the collection of the first three albums by the FL: "The audience thought he (Dave Fridmann) was crazy when, in a white shirt, he fiddled behind the consoles (he was also their sound engineer in the early days) following our craziness on stage..."

But I didn't have my laptop, so now I find myself writing the following, and I have to do it quickly before I end up describing it as "almost" beautiful:
"It is indeed a flat, boring, and affected album. I don't know if it's also due to the arrangements by Dave Fridmann (too similar to those used on the last Sparklehorse album). Dave Fridmann, whom I still consider one of the best "alternative" arrangers, if only for what he did with the Flaming Lips. Flaming Lips, whom I now believe are perhaps the only ones (maybe because of their true "creative anarchy") capable of preventing their albums from being uniformed and ultimately flattened in favor of our dear arrangements. I think there are still ¾ songs in The Secret Migration that are worth saving (the first one, the penultimate in particular). For the rest, it's really difficult to make it to the end, as the songs are so similar and amorphous and lacking in ideas with absolutely inappropriate and unsuccessful citations. Imagine that in one song, they openly mimic the Smashing Pumpkins' Mellon Collie (!!!). In another, I almost feel like they’re quoting CSN&Y. Want a tip? Just skip it.
P.S.
It has nothing to do with it, but I wanted to mention that before this big purchase I was only listening to Goodbye and Hello by Tim Buckley (damn me, if I had continued doing that…). Do you know Morning Glory? Do it, as soon as you can, and get the tissues ready, because it's heart-wrenching and above all "REAL."

Wow, I hadn’t realized it had already been done. What promptness! Anyway, since it’s already here, I’ll also share my take (in installments), so I save you the anxious wait for its publication...
P.S. After a third listen, I’m already adding an extra point. If it continues like this, tomorrow it will be a masterpiece... ---------------------------------- ----------------------------------- ----------------------------------
If this morning, while I was in the car listening to this album for the very first time, I had had a laptop or a PC to jot down this review, I would have more or less written this:
ā€œI’m really pissed off. Mostly with myself. I should have realized that I risked throwing away my money. After all, that review I read mentioned (I must deduce at this point) that celebratory work of saccharine and overproduced musical nothingness, See You On The Other Side, in relation to this The Secret Migration. Another review said it was a flat, clichéd work with no significant ideas, boring. And I probably wouldn’t have bought this album if I hadn’t also read reviews like ā€˜Definitely album of the year,’ ā€˜The definitive confirmation of Mercury Rev's greatness.’ In the end, my musical greed got the better of me. But I want to take my revenge on Debaser, so Final Rating: 1 out of 5.ā€
And I would have managed to fully follow a piece of advice I read some time ago on Debaser, which is to increase the number of negative reviews compared to the praises of reviewed albums.

OK, undoubtedly I was not taken seriously. Nevertheless, I recommend The Tangent to all lovers of progressive music.
