De De Lind Io non so da dove vengo e non so dove mai andrò, uomo è il nome che mi han dato

After several listens, I understood that Italian progressive, with very few exceptions (PFM, something from BMS, Quella Vecchia Locanda), is too convoluted (both musically and in the lyrics, see the abuse of concept albums) and usually features terrible vocals. Unfortunately, it’s hard for this movement to hold up in comparison with the Anglo-Saxon one.

Guys, don't worry about "doubling" the reviews on FL. In fact, I hope all of mine will be duplicated sooner or later, if not tripled...

As for how to listen to it, like everything in life, if you really want something, you get it (the only problem is the price, but unfortunately, as a fan, I had to make sacrifices). I don’t have four stereo systems at home, especially not in the same room. I made do as follows: a) CD1 on the main stereo system b) CD2 on my portable radio c) CD3 on a walkman with speakers taken from my PC d) CD4 on a radio borrowed from a friend. To conclude, I like to think that the reason record labels put out so much rubbish that’s only good for selling is precisely to afford to release stuff like Zaireeka that only those who truly want to find something out of the ordinary rush to buy.

However, I start with a series of my comments on a (terrible) old review of mine.
To understand the FLs, you have to realize that everything they do stems from the combination of death and madness/carefree (but also curiosity) childhood. If you don’t get this, you risk judging them and their followers as mere stoners, if not worse (truthfully, Steven Drozd has ingested some LSD, but Coyne, strange as it may seem, never has). That said, a bit more about Zaireeka: According to Coyne in the booklet, Zaireeka (whose project originates from the Parking Lot Experiments, a sort of crazy drive-in where, under Coyne’s direction, every occupant of a car played, ideally in sync, a tape with music arranged specifically, sounds and frequencies) is born from the union of the words Zaire and Eureka, to highlight the connection between chaos and the creative moment. By their own admission, even the FLs didn’t really know what they wanted to achieve at the beginning of the project; they had only established who would be the father (chaos) and the mother of the newborn (creativity).... The peculiar thing about Zaireeka is that each performance of every single piece is practically unique since it is virtually impossible to reproduce the whole thing in exactly the same way twice in a row (also depending on the quality of the 4 CD players used and their ability to maintain synchronization), which makes the listener truly an active participant rather than just a passive one. In this sense, it is the listener who "plays" Zaireeka.
