The Flaming Lips Transmissions From The Satellite Heart

Gummo, go take a trip to the course and grab an aperitif with your buddies, along with plenty of snacks. If you feel like it, get yourself a nice sandwich with sausages and lots of mustard. Then read the Gazzetta dello Sport to see what's expected in the market for next year. After that, tonight, read a nice Spider-Man comic and then sleep on it. PS. Not for the judgment on the review, for heaven's sake.

The lyrics of There You Are are the most beautiful part of the review (but why is it just so beautifully beautiful).

Yes, a few lumps of heroin... In Fearless Freaks it shows us in a way that is all too explicit.

I just hope I haven't bored you, rather... PS. Thinking about it, the fact that I wrote WITH SO MUCH EMPHASIS "when I listened to Zaireeka in the splendor of all four of its CDs..." makes sense. After all, it’s an experience that once had is hard to forget and even harder to replicate; it's a bit like having been on the Moon (my wife looked at me as if I were crazy when I came out of the room with all those "virtual bats").

The lack of synchronization between the players is part of the spectacle. For me, when I listened to Zaireeka in the splendor of all four of its CDs, it only intensified the disorienting and ultra-psychedelic effect (NB. I had not taken any substances).

"As for how to listen to it, like all things in life, if you really want something, you achieve it (the only problem is the price, but unfortunately as a fan, I've had to make sacrifices). I don’t have four stereo systems at home, especially not in the same room. I’ve managed as follows: a) CD1 on the main stereo system b) CD2 on my portable radio c) CD3 on a walkman with speakers taken from my PC d) CD4 on a radio borrowed from a friend."

"To understand the FL, one must grasp that everything they do stems from the combination of death and madness/carefree (but also curious) childhood. If this is not understood, there is a risk of simply judging them and their followers as just a bunch of stoners, if not worse (truth be told, Steven Drozd has had his share of LSD, but Coyne, strange as it may seem, never has). That said, let's delve a bit deeper into Zaireeka: According to Coyne in the booklet, Zaireeka (which originated from the Parking Lot Experiments, a sort of mad drive-in where, under Coyne's direction, every occupant of a car played, ideally in sync, a cassette with specifically arranged music, sounds, and frequencies) is born from the fusion of the words Zaire and Eureka, highlighting the blend between chaos and the creative moment. As he admits, even the FL did not know what they really wanted to achieve at the beginning of the project; they had only established what the father (chaos) and the mother of the newborn (creativity) should be.... The peculiar thing about Zaireeka is that each performance of every single track is practically unique, as it is nearly impossible to reproduce the whole thing the same way twice in a row (also depending on the quality of the four CD players used and their ability to maintain synchronization), which means the listener becomes truly an active part rather than just a passive one in the experience. So, in a sense, it is the listener who 'plays' Zaireeka."

I attach my impressions that I wrote following a terrible review I wrote about Zaireeka some time ago:
"Dear (or dear Josi), as Zen masters teach, sometimes words simply aren't suited to describe reality (particularly that created by this album). I can only tell you that one track (How Will I Know) works like this: a CD 'discusses while singing' (the melody is very beautiful) about a popular belief that listening to extreme sound frequencies allows one to predict the future. In parallel, the other three play just those frequencies!!! Another one (Twenty-five thousand ..) has a beautiful melody (albeit a painful one) immersed in ambient noises of an airplane and generally of an airport (different for each CD) with the aim of depicting the situation (a suicidal pilot flying due to overwhelming responsibility toward the passengers) from various different points of view (the suicidal pilot, the air traffic controller who late at night is still monitoring the radar screen in the hope of seeing the airplane again). As you can see, it's not easy to describe."
