John Zorn, Uri Caine Moloch - Book Of Angels Volume 6

Very well, hurray for short, beautiful, pleasant reviews instead of not. You also reminded me that my Book of Angels is still incomplete.

A bluff.

Irony, come to our rescue; truly chilling is the weight of your reviews, and especially the comments you sprinkle at the bottom. You are nobody to assign a 1, however well-argued, to a film that has simply made history and suggested to millions of young minds that around those white dots seen at night, there is an infinite space. The trouble with humanity is not the low percentage of people familiar with Kurosawa, but the overwhelming abundance of direct cultivators of their own ego.

I also lean towards a 3, no more. Your comments are presumptuous, not to mention the self-voting; I strongly recommend eliminating the defensive reactions to dissenting comments, as well as statements like "I've noticed all the details." For example, I think of the slow-motion opening sequence with the rolling titles, unforgettable—there's a good chunk of the film right there.

Comedy is when you make people laugh; you could be Pozzetto, Peter Sellers, or even, yes indeed, Massimo Boldi. The memorable scene of the country boy shaving with an epilator is funny, period. That doesn't mean I dream of comparing Pozzetto to Totò: in Totò, I recognize a refined and at times sublime art, but with Ragazzo di campagna, I enjoy myself. The cancers that bite at your feet are something else; for instance, Natale a New York is a cancer, but Pozzetto doesn’t bother anyone, just like the records of Ricchi e Poveri.

However, the monopoly of the cinemas practiced by this trash is extremely serious, the media omnipresence of these heroes, the disgusting appearances on evening talk shows, the complicity of certain critics, and the omnipotence of these rich lords of entertainment. Some time ago, I praised "L'allenatore nel pallone," made with a billionth of these budgets, filmed between a mortadella sandwich and a glass of wine, innocuous as a blank pistol. This, on the other hand, is a repeated crime, extremely serious. Good job getting angry quickly.

Every year I plan to go to the cinema at Christmas to see this stuff. I would be very curious to observe the people in the theater, saturated with festive air, gift-wrapped presents, and cheap giggles. Yet every year I am struck by an unstoppable repulsion, but next year I’m going to see it, I swear.

Recently rewatched, entertaining like few others. I agree, Joe Pesci above all. Rating for the album: 4.5. Rating for the reviewer: much lower; anyone who hasn't seen the film wouldn't even remotely imagine the presence of the most important element of Goodfellas, a ton of irony.

This film is another case of a title that should have never been translated. "A Straight Story": the story of Alvin Straight, or the story of going straight without ever looking back. "A True Story" works much less well instead.
