Well, easycure, you must admit that no argument based (even partially) on musical taste is unassailable. Music is not an exact science and it certainly can't be "explained" with logical reasoning. I would say that unfortunately it can't be explained at all. There is a (not insignificant) margin of subjectivity that can't be unveiled. That said (of course, I am referring a bit to the entire review in general, not to any specific discussion), I vote for you!

But...for heaven's sake! Are we even questioning the fact that Nirvana was a grunge band?!! At this point, genres don’t exist anymore! By this logic, even Prince becomes hard rock (just to make a point...)!!! So...we can say that Nirvana created SOME songs with a punk rock influence and that they have a certain punk rock attitude...But their genre is grunge, period! Saying that Nirvana plays punk rock is like saying that Led Zeppelin is heavy metal!
