Moreover, it's quite simplistic to say that Malmsteen was helped by chance. I remind you that he is completely self-taught, that he studied music and composers on his own without music schools or any other nonsense, and that at the time there certainly weren't any Berkeley manuals to download on eMule. I suggest you listen to "The Genesis," recorded at the age of sixteen (some tracks even at 15 and 14, the booklet doesn't lie) and reconsider your thoughts because if someone like that is musically deficient, what does that make us? Or rather, it would be more accurate to say that "we are not" anything at all.

Two opposing factions? Look, I didn’t mention technical superiority... but who cares... I was just making observations about the way Jason Becker plays that I don’t like.

An artist is never surpassed if their style can be recognized in uniting their works under their "genius"; this is because an artist IS their style. Not their technique.

Oh my God, Luca, you really dropped the ball at the end. Oh well... P.S.: The greatness of a musician lies in their artistic personality, in their individuality in the way they express themselves, not in the difficulty of what they play: ask your session musicians to give you a solo ā€œin the style of Malmsteen or Vai,ā€ and then listen to a solo by those two. Let's see if it makes sense to talk about "outdated."

He uses all those techniques in his own way; which is unlike anyone else's. In fact, he is unmistakable to all his clones.

For heaven's sake, I'm not saying otherwise, I don't deny the talent either. I was simply criticizing his approach to the instrument...the solos are scales upon scales, sweeps upon sweeps...his style is "incomplete" for this reason: too few peculiarities. If you listen to the much-criticized Malmsteen carefully, you realize he has a much richer and more characteristic style (and you can see bends and vibratos and accents and arpeggios, and the effects he uses in a very unique way, even the whammy bar abused just enough).

Pastorius, you're making it too easy for me :-) I don't like it because I haven't listened to it well? That could also be true, huh... I don't have the truth in my pocket... anyway, I don't really like the whole genre...

Do you think a composer's skill comes from writing music on a computer (pupille or not) rather than with a pen? You're light years away from music. Hearing your nonsense would even offend Jason Becker himself, I'm sure of it.

Pastorius, I said that I DON'T LIKE you as a composer, okay? Not that you're NOT a good composer.
