Anyway, the fusion you’re talking about, Bathory, is thrash. In fact, Metallica patented the union between Californian Hardcore elements and new wave in 1983! Then, sure, they evolved, but Iron Maiden remains a classic metal band... there’s no fusion in their style, yet now in their more recent albums (see Dance of Death) they’re clearly self-copying! (And I weep, buahhhh)!

Well, if he were to hear Steve Harris, he wouldn't be too happy... in fact, he strongly reiterated his hatred for punk about 28 years ago, stating that his band was the ego of the English punk movement! Anyway, you know why I don't like Guns, because they are all drug addicts and alcoholics and they boast about it, as if to say: hey folks, we get totally high, live our life! So, I’m not saying don’t do drugs, but damn, it certainly doesn’t set a good example for people, and I’m not here to preach, but let’s not forget what music should convey: values, reasons to fight for, symbols to identify with! And what should I identify with? Drugs? They can go to hell!

Anyway, Bathory, the Guns play street metal, I can confirm that, in their first album, though... then unfortunately their record label, which was very stingy, commercialized them and turned them into a nice band for 15-year-old girls! I was a huge fan of the Guns, but then I realized what music really was and I shifted my interests towards bands that actually PLAYED. I must say that it’s not that much metal; their ideas actually collected: 80s glam rock, vague hints of "maidenian" metal, and a bit of 90s punk rock!

Portnoy could win an Oscar for his facial expressions... but have you seen how he makes those funny faces when he’s focused??? I don’t understand why Petrucci sometimes likes to make the guitar scream during live shows; clearly (and I say this as a fan, and I am objective) he is inspired by Hammett... by the way, I read one day in some review some idiot saying that Petrucci was inspired by SLASH! Guys, you have to believe me, I laid on the floor laughing... AH, AH, AH, I’m still laughing to this day!

It’s obvious that Mr. Slash (who I don’t take anything away from and I know he’s a good guitarist) is also inspired by Mr. HAMMETT, both in his look, finger positioning, and the way he plays, especially… then Slash wants to show off and wants to get from his pretty little guitar the sound effects of prolongation and distortion that the GOD Jimi Page achieved 30 years ago! Petrucci vaguely (and I say vaguely because I know he is light-years ahead of our galaxy) draws inspiration from metal sounds, nothing more...

We know they don’t need comments, but the moment you decided to review IRON you were obligated to do so... I’ll give you a 3 just because you’re a fan of my favorite band…..

I don't even dress like a real metalhead... what makes my appearance more "metal" is the beard, with a goatee like Petrucci's... and a low, deep voice like HETFIELD's, but that doesn't concern the appearance...
