"Francis, I wanted to ask you something: how good are you?" "I'm really good, Ishmael, really good."

I've responded, I've written dozens of comments, what else do you want to know? Is this a ready-made monologue? Read between the lines, I've said everything I needed to say! The truth is you can't change my mind, and your frustration leads you to hide behind the usual accusations of sensationalism when, in fact, almost all my reviews are for a select few and commented on by a select few, precisely because I rarely engage with groups that have a large audience like, for example, the Doors. I am open to dialogue and I’ve demonstrated that, but don’t contest just for the sake of it.

Anonymous, YES BUT YOU'RE ASKING ME TOO MANY QUESTIONS, just calm down. What do 20-minute suites have to do with Duran Duran's pop songs? Well, I think that if Brian Eno had produced an album by "those Duran Duran," it would have been an incredible album... and this comparison is not at all unlikely. When I talk about ethics/aesthetics, I mean that, since I believe ethics and aesthetics are the exact same thing, I refer to both the image and the content, to the artistic proposal... in this sense, I see parallels, for example, between Duran Duran and the Velvet Underground. Duran Duran were simply new romantic in the literal sense of the term; rather than just riding that trend, they definitely launched it, and the history of their successful singles (and what singles!) does not undermine their artistic quality.

It's not true at all that I hate American rock... true, I still think that the English generally have more personality, as Malcolm McLaren rightly said, but I've proven that I'm not confined to English pop with my reviews. In fact, my favorite artist is Lou Reed, and I have written reviews on R.E.M., Pavement, and the best concert of my life was Sonic Youth's a few years ago. It's time to debunk this too...

I repeat: everything started from the demystification of the Italian media towards Duran Duran in the '80s, but they were a pop group in the noblest sense of the term. Their influence can still be found in much of modern music.
They are certainly dated, because the bands that "mark an era" are necessarily closely tied to it. But I believe that, even from a production and arrangement point of view, they taught many of the "new wave of new wave of new wave" bands, and not only them.
They were also pretentious in the good and "decadent" sense of the term, wanting to propose the ethics/aesthetics of pop culture to an audience that "was pop" but did not know it, simultaneously launching a style tied not only to music but also to fashion, visual arts, and literature.

It's not that this whole star-rating system automatically requires you to calculate English averages and equations to understand the mathematical proportion with which one judges records... I couldn't care less about stars; if I gave three to Avril Lavigne, it's because her album, in its modesty, certainly didn't ruin an afternoon for me, while instead, listening to Morrison's mumbling with that organ playing in the background really annoyed me. It's an absolutely personal, individual stance.

No anonymous, I don't have to write any review about Duran, in fact I'm not quite sure why we ended up talking about them so specifically, but as D'Alema says, "it's the passion that drives me."

I repeat again that in the USA and England, Duran Duran are LEGENDS, and their reputation has nothing to do with that of boy bands: it’s here in Italy that, because otherwise they wouldn’t have sold a damn thing, too sophisticated for the Italian audience, they’ve been marketed as teen idols, with all that bullshit about paninari, etc. but the truth is that Duran Duran had nothing to do with paninari.
They drew inspiration from Roxy Music, Japan, they were inspired by the science fiction of the '60s, they were inspired by Lord Byron.
People can like them or not, that’s fine, but I think it’s time to debunk this legend of Duran as a "group created solely to sell posters."

Tegucigalpa, we are on two different planets; personally, I find the singles by Depeche Mode from the first half of the '80s amazing, for me they ended after "Violator"... we have two completely different approaches.
