R.E.M. Around The Sun

So let's put it this way: but what do you really EXPECT FROM A R.E.M. ALBUM????

Oh guys, thank you anyway. I’m glad my reviews are read so thoroughly!!!
I’m responding a bit to everyone, thanking again those who support me: it’s obvious that Lavigne is primarily aimed at a type of audience as Easycure described, but that doesn’t mean her album should be mercilessly torn apart. "Let Go" was crap, this is not. I don’t see why writing that should be taken as a provocation: as I’ve already said, my Metal Machine Music was Buckley’s review, in the sense that I agree with everything but expressed it in an overflowing, exaggerated, disproportionate way. It doesn’t mean I won’t disavow that review in the future, but for now, I felt like doing it, and I’m happy with that.
What do you think: I also consider at least 70% of the music that goes on the radio and/or TV to be crap, but if I like something, I don’t care what it’s called or the type of audience it’s aimed at.
On Debaser, someone said, I don’t remember where: "if the songs by Interpol were unreleased tracks by Joy Division, they would be valued differently." I’m not crazy about Interpol, but this statement is absolutely true.

I didn’t do anything to end up on the "stake." I just found myself there, and that’s it. If you read my reviews, you’ll notice that up until the one about Buckley, there isn’t the slightest hint of a polemic against anyone or anything. However, when I was attacked for crimes I didn’t commit, my reaction was not egocentrism.
Be careful: I was put in a position to act like a martyr, to play the victim, because on several occasions I received avalanches of premeditated and unjust comments (at least according to me).
In the end, I can proudly say that I "defeated the enemy" with his own weapons, because from an anonymous reviewer I transitioned to the role of "star," and everyone who sided with me turned out to be infinitely more open-minded, competent, and balanced than those who attack me, some of whom express themselves like little beasts.

Look, you still haven't understood, this review of Avril Lavigne is NOT a provocation. I actually really liked her album; I found it fresh and fun... much more than Jeff Buckley, who may be more "elevated," but WHAT A DRAG!! It's time to say these things.
You are completely free to review Lecrevisse: I don't love the music you listen to because, honestly, I'm not fond of prog (and what has come from it in recent years), but I wouldn't dream of telling you "don't write reviews of albums that no one listens to," that's the difference between you and me.

Well frankly, looking at your musical tastes, aside from a few specific examples, the bands you listen to are extremely well-known and widely cited. I don’t see what kind of visibility they should benefit from. King Crimson, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age... all people who have sold millions of records!

So my answer is: write reviews about whoever you want, but don’t put a Band-Aid in other people's mouths. Trust me, I don’t spend my days listening only to Avril Lavigne. If I write (and well) about her, it’s also because, without wanting to be arrogant, I feel that I can AFFORD to do so. I’m not a numbskull lobotomized by MTV and the like, but I’m also not a ā€œRadical Chicā€ like many who think like you.

Since so many of us are writing here, and since we are in a democracy, just as one has the right to write about an album, another has the right to comment on it, even harshly if we want: but these stories about not writing a review because it may be too unusual for Debaser are nonsense.
Here, everyone coexists: Avril Lavigne, Pixies, Oasis, Limp Bizkit, Led Zeppelin, Tom Jones, Slint, N.E.R.D., Muse, Metallica, Bob Dylan, Mazzy Star, Robbie Williams, Cannibal Corpse, R.E.M., Chemical Brothers, Interpol etc. If we start to "filter" the kind of music that can be reviewed, then you will see people start leaving the site. Because not everyone can speak freely, you know, about Butthole Surfers, Birthday Party, or Public Image Ltd. like you could.

From the way you write, it seems that your mood is much less "moderate" than what you are trying to make it appear. Probably (I might be wrong) you actually mean to say "Avril Lavigne sucks, etc., etc.": the hypocrisy of words and rhetoric often leads to unexpected outcomes.
Anyway, I find your claim absurd to review only and exclusively artists of particular genres with minimal reach, meaning music that only 3 or 4 users might know. Aside from the fact that it seems to me that Debaser really has space for everything (just look at the impressive lineup of metal reviews and subgenres present), just as you can talk about people making music with tubes and antennas, everyone can write what they think about the albums they listen to.
I don't see why I should refrain from reviewing an album by Avril Lavigne just because YOU didn't like it and because, ACCORDING TO YOU, it doesn't fit the style of this site. But why?!? Who decided that? You, perhaps?

One of the few Italian groups that I enjoy listening to. They are years ahead of almost everyone in our country. Well done!

This time I'm surprised in reverse: I thought I was going to receive the usual ton of crap, but instead, the message got through. I'm glad; evidently, I miscalculated.
Regarding the Interpol: I really like them too, and I've said it elsewhere, but I just wanted to give an example of a type of artist that few, especially at their peak popularity, which is NOW, have the courage to criticize. On the other hand, Lavigne is the typical case where if something good comes out, the credit goes to the songwriters (though I understand some are hers) or the producers.
For years, no one dared to challenge Morrissette: no one said she was really a manufactured project, that her rock was sloppy and predictable, that her lyrics were feignedly transgressive, and that her artistic depth was little more than zero.
