Lene Marlin Another Day

Good. I appreciate your point of view, and I also really like Lene Marlin; for me, she is the new Suzanne Vega.

Basically, I love those bands that make original, intelligent, emotional, surprising music, capable of pulling out great melodies as well as great noise. It's like a chain letter: if you love R.E.M., the Pixies, the Smiths, the Stone Roses, the Smashing Pumpkins, Blur, etc., you can't help but like Idlewild.

I didn't say that their lyrics are poor; what I noticed in "Remote Part" is a certain drop in tension in terms of the lyrics, which seemed a bit "optimistic" and "romantic" to me (assuming these two terms aren't misinterpreted). My personal top 10 Idlewild songs: 1. Roseability 2. Little Discourage 3. I'm Happy To Be Here Tonight 4. Tell Me Ten Words 5. You've Lost Your Way 6. Let Me Sleep 7. You've Held The World In Your Arms 8. Living In A Hiding Place 9. Listen To What You've Got 10. Stay The Same... I’m not particularly fond of "American English," even though I think a song like that, if it had been done by, for example, The Calling, would have become a super-mega-international hit that the teen pop stars would forget about. This confirms the eclecticism of the Scottish band.

I love Idlewild especially because they remind me of the early R.E.M., the ones from "chronic town" or "reckoning," and because they have a particular gift: they can sound incredibly heavy, bordering on hardcore, and yet be acoustically melancholic without risking schizophrenia. Of course, the lyrics aren't on par with "that" Michael Stipe, but the result is good. I have some of the early EP that I found online, I don’t know if it’s all the tracks. The very first songs I found a bit raw, better is "100 broken windows," the album of maturity.

I really love "make it all ok" and "the absent of man."

The Raveonettes Chain Gang Of Love

They are the same, the same as the Jesus & Mary Chain from "Psychocandy."

Honestly, it’s a decidedly retro "avant-garde"... there's no need to shout about fake miracles, those psychedelic records of Battiato sound distinctly outdated today. Better the Can, at that point.

No, it’s the record that’s a kick in the balls for a 10-year-old kid.

What a nightmare this record is. My father used to listen to it when I was 10 years old... very bizarre, but for a whole host of reasons, I can't stand it.
