Duran Duran have content that has nothing to envy from that, for example, of Nirvana (even though we are talking about two very distant bands). I repeat to exhaustion that their image and lyrics had specific literary and cinematic references, but not linked to commercial pandering... Duran were inspired by Roxy Music and Japan, and Brian Eno was supposed to produce their first album... I wouldn't say they were just a commercial band created in a lab.

Do I claim to make sweeping judgments? Your only argument about Duran Duran was that "you hate them," and then you come to tell me I'm being totalizing? Look in the mirror.

Tegucigalpa, do you remember the early Depeche Mode? And do you find them so different from those Duran Duran? I wouldn’t say so, otherwise I’d also doubt your objectivity and good faith.

Let’s leave the idea of "who came first" to Scaruffi and his followers who are always saying "this guy did it before Bowie, that one farted in a song two months before the Beatles did," these are accountant's discussions, and I don't see why I should demean myself and us.

I believe that few other groups have represented (I don’t know how intentionally) a controversial decade like the '80s to the same extent.

Tegucigalpa, I can speak because I really listen to the records, and without prejudice.
I think you've never really listened to anything by Duran Duran other than Wild Boys, and that you have no idea about the multiple interpretations of their music, which is deeply inspired by the Warholian movement and the Romantic literature of the early 19th century.
Enough with this 90s grunge mentality that everything from the 80s has to be demonized and filled with crap!!!! You guys are driving me crazy, open your eyes!!!!!!!!

Anonymous, it's not personal vanity...everyone here writes reviews to make a good impression, to showcase their talent, everyone defends their work...I'm simply saying what most reviewers think for themselves but are afraid to declare.

I do not dispute the value of the artists I mentioned (although I've been told that Beck is a genius and Goldfrapp and the Scissor Sisters are among the most original artists in recent years), I wanted to justify my statement that Duran Duran have been a major source of inspiration for many bands not sharing the same background.
This is a fact.
I sincerely believe that in Italy, Duran Duran were promoted in the wrong way, as they were made to appear as a sort of "new Miguel Bosè," when in the UK and the USA they were indeed followed by girls, but did not have that teen idol sheen that ultimately risked compromising their career.
Until the single Save A Prayer, they were absolutely not a group that attracted the masses; in fact, on several occasions they faced mystifications and censorship.

And instead, I had the humility to do this as well, to play as a full-back, or rather as a midfielder... I think that in order to open a gap (which doesn't necessarily only concern the Doors, mind you), I absolutely had to "put in the work" in midfield; I couldn't play delicately, I don't know if I've made myself clear... that’s why the tones used in the review are unusual for my style because I don't like swearing. It's not like when you mark a striker, you foul him just for the sake of hurting him; in the same way, I didn't write this review to hurt the Doors fans, because I can perfectly understand their disappointment... it's normal to get angry when you concede a goal!

Ringostarfish, I mostly agree with what you've written... however, there might have been a small misunderstanding, because regarding the "phone conversation" story, I was referring almost exclusively to this review, not to the others I've written, which took a lot of my time and effort. As you know, I have no problem claiming that I reasonably think I've written some fantastic reviews for this site; of course, I'm not infallible, and so I too have made some mistakes, stuff I wouldn’t want to bear my signature on, but on the other hand, you can’t go to Maradona and tell him to play as a full-back : )
