Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory

Don't worry, Matt, we’ve had several discussions in other guitar reviews and you don’t strike me as the type to spam. If you have something to say, you say it clearly and in broad daylight!

From what I know, Matt7 doesn't seem like the type to make such comments; easy, don't pay attention to fake editors, rather ask real editors who left all this spam, which is indeed pure nonsense.

So, at first I strongly contested your review; I certainly could have spared the phrase about the horse racing, even though perhaps it was more benign than you interpret it, but for me the matter was settled there and I think I wrote that too, while maintaining that we have absolutely different ways of understanding this album and, more generally, the electric guitar. I'm sorry if I gave you the impression of being biased against you, but it's not the case, nor do I generally have a presumptuous attitude towards those who comment on Debaser. There are sometimes heated exchanges, but I believe this applies to everyone; after all, we're talking about music and I don't see why it should become a personal issue at all costs. With Rising Force, I simply took for granted, probably wrongly, that my sentence wouldn't be taken literally, but read between the lines. I mean, I assumed the "distortion" discussion (which as you say is also quite trivial in itself; if I didn't know this, I don't think people would be able to read and sometimes appreciate my reviews), and I was instead referring to the difference that can occur between guitarists as far as sound is concerned; I believe that Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force has a very genuine, sweet sound, far from the commonly heavy, weighty, and pumped-up sound of other hyper-technical musicians, but you're free to think otherwise, of course!

Look, shark, I'm leaving, don't worry, but before I go, I want to clarify a couple of things: regarding Satriani, I never said that all of his work is fusion; obviously, I don't think that at all. I only said that the early Satriani, particularly the album Surfing with the Alien, embraces fusion. As for Rising Force, I meant to say that the sound of that album is much more genuine and clean compared to what you might find in other electric guitarists and albums. It’s well known to many that the early Malmsteen made very little use of effects, as he modeled himself after Ritchie Blackmore (who is notoriously minimalistic in that regard). That's all; that was and is my opinion, so stick to that if you really must insult me, something I see you enjoy doing a lot (the most I’ve told you is to consider horse racing; I did that only once, but you, on the other hand, have gone much harder).

I see that Shark is only good at threatening or insulting, well, I feel sorry for him, almost to the point of pity for the reactions he shows, but given that his cultural level is this, more than compassion can't be felt, he doesn't even deserve a reaction from me. As for Rising Force, I am pleased to note that the only one who read and understood my comment is Marco85, but this doesn't surprise me, he is an educated and intelligent guy. Anyway, this is my last intervention on this review, one cannot engage in dialogue with certain people and I truly regret that in a music site we reach insults or worse, instead of civilly confronting and discussing as Christians, perhaps with different ideas. After all, as Goya said, "the sleep of reason produces monsters," and I won't engage in this massacre game.

Look, ajeje, I agree on the fact that Vai doesn't always express all his talent, as well as on the fact that he has an unbridled ego that sometimes leads him astray. However, saying that Tender Surrender is a hysterical piece seems to me a bit exaggerated; it’s one of his most successful tracks! Also, I cannot agree that Rising Force by Malmsteen contains a distorted guitar because then I need to be explained what is meant by distorted guitar. I hear a clean and clear Fender Stratocaster on that album, and obviously, I cannot agree that Hendrix is remembered just because he was "messed up"; that literally means throwing the music (great and innovative, both in terms of guitar and songs) he left behind down the toilet!

Tender Surrender exhibitionist and hysterical????????? I wish all guitarists were hysterical and exhibitionists then, if they were able to compose pieces like this!!!!

So, to be clear, for you is an Icarus Dream Suite distorted?

If you think there’s distorted guitar in Rising Force, then I really have no idea what you think distortion is.

But have you listened to it? Have you listened to the Concert Suite for Orchestra?
