Johann Sebastian Bach Il clavicembalo ben temperato - Libro I (Glenn Gould)
Voto:
After JoP's "The Art of Fugue," we find ourselves once again in the presence of the Master of Eisenach, in ecstatic contemplation of these rationally perfect scores, scientifically precise, mathematically exact, yet never aseptically cold. And then there's that genius Glenn Gould behind the keys... A beautiful listening experience and, as always, a beautiful read.

I remember him at Sanremo, together with Noa and the Solis String Quartet, with a song elegantly outside the festival clichés, and predictably relegated to the less prestigious parts of the so-called chart. Curiously, after Gianmaria Testa, he’s another homepage artist I’ll see live soon, again as part of the local jazz season of the Brass Group. I promise to return with some additional thoughts. Great review.
Gianmaria Testa Da Questa Parte Del Mare
Voto:
I welcome this review with particular enthusiasm for several reasons: 1) I haven't heard anything by Gianmaria Testa so far, although I've always heard great things about him; 2) I will see him live on December 17 (with special guest Erri De Luca), as part of the Brass Group's jazz season; "La vedova scalza" by Niffoi has been one of my most beautiful reads in recent months. What more can I say... the usual five is always too few.

Nice combination: a trio I'm practically unfamiliar with and a book by a Pulitzer Prize winner... I declare myself satisfied!

I don't have this one, and I'm already kicking myself for reading you; of course, it's on my shopping list with high priority! Speaking of shopping lists, I connect with Hal who shakes up one of my upcoming purchases, the Metheny-Mehldau duo: if it’s not great, it’s a real shame; I expected a lot from this pairing (if you remember, Hal, we talked about it in the morningstar review on Metheny-Coleman). I agree with symbad when he says that projects without a bass risk being without a "spine," but I can pull out a good record without a four-string: the recent "Tati" by Rava, accompanied only by Bollani and Motian.
