Arthur Russell First Thought Best Thought

What a fantastic recommendation! I heard something instrumental that fits your description of "orchestral Beatle-esque atmospheres on a full psychedelic trip" perfectly, but I've never picked up any album by our Russell: this could be for me. Great performance, Stronko.
McCoy Tyner Inception - The real McCoy

I only have "The Real McCoy," a stunning album whose more radical and innovative approach is undoubtedly fascinating. I'll try to get my hands on this "Inception." Great as always, Symbad: now reviews are a buy one, get one free!
David Sanborn Time Again

Yeah, you’re really getting me used to this... Maybe the timings and arrangements are a bit too "lounge" for me, but I’ll still give it a listen.

Paolo Fresu + Avishai Cohen + Enrico Pieranunzi Live@Pomigliano D'Arco (NA), Pomigliano Jazz Festival 15-07-06
Voto:
Great report, really! I’m surprised by the coldness of the audience towards Fresu, while I’m not at all surprised by the enthusiasm for a great artist like Avishai Cohen (I discovered him through Chick Corea's New Trio on "Past, Present and Futures", so when he came to perform here in Catania, I couldn’t miss it... "Lyla" and "At Home" are highly recommended). As for the Pieranunzi-Montellanico project "Danza di una Ninfa", dedicated to jazz reworkings of Tenco's songs, it’s a refined and delightful endeavor that creates a subdued and ethereal atmosphere live.
Olivier Messiaen Quatuor Pour La Fin Du Temps

I recently bought it along with one by Ligeti (Quartetti 1 e 2, Ramifications, Melodien, Sonata per Violoncello solo) and Arvo Pärt (Lamentate), and it’s enchanting me with the sinuosity and rhythmic asymmetries you have described so wonderfully. Nothing better than the cold and unpredictable contemporary to fight the scorching heat...
