I actually liked it. It's in line with Ragpicker's Dream (which so far remains his best work).

I'm sorry, the Liars go in one ear and out the other; I don’t know what to do about it. However, two reviews like this certainly encourage a re-listen. As for the names mentioned: the latest Akron/Family is very nice and melodic, but it doesn’t take many risks; perhaps the previous albums (Meek Warrior and the split with Angels of Light) were better. Then, We Are Him by the aforementioned AoL is truly an amazing album; I'm impressed. The Animal Collective leave me a bit undecided—cute but hmm, (and the same goes for Panda Bear). Please recommend me an album by Current 93 because there are 93 reviews of mementomori, and it’s impossible to navigate through them.

Beautiful Rece, but I can't deal with the Liars. I tried with Drums Not Dead and it was just yawns. I gave this another shot and it left me with nothing.

I don't find Verdena disgusting, I've said it. They take a bit from here and there, it's obvious that there's no band that sounds exactly like them (that's a discussion that can be made about quite a few).

Wait, though, these groups have nothing to do with Verdena! I was talking about contemporary people who have kraut sounds, nothing else :)

@aerosiphon: I was saying in the context of "the resurgence of dilated kraut/psychedelic sounds" (the reviewer claimed that traces of it have been lost, but that's not true). If you're interested, I would suggest: Titan, Assemble Head, the entire catalog of Holy Mountain (http://www.holymountain.com/), the entire catalog of elektrohasch (http://www.elektrohasch.de/), then The Heads, Comets on Fire, the first that come to mind, in short, there’s really a ton of it.

I'm being a bit unpleasant. A note on the review: the expanded kraut/psychedelic sounds have not been lost in the folds of time. On the contrary. Recently, there's been a great flourishing of bands in that genre (and they make stuff 100 times more interesting than Verdena). Then, I don't remember who in the comments said that Verdena is a difficult band (?). Obviously, personal sensitivity and the sacred law of "de gustibus" come into play here, but frankly, this album is one of the easiest and most straightforward (banal?) things I've happened to listen to lately. They don't make Sanremo-style tunes, that's for sure.

It's not bad. Sure: they plagiarize left and right, they haven't invented ANYTHING, they're not original, they won't leave anything to the history of rock (but who cares?), they're unlikable and well-connected. But the album isn't bad; there’s tons of stuff out there that’s way worse.
