Bad Brains I Against I

I want to clarify Burns' comment: Bad Brains are NOT from L.A., but from Washington DC, although the style of their first LP is related to the sound of the early '80s Los Angeles scene. "I Against I," however, is completely different; it almost sounds like another band. The sound is significantly slowed down and is closer to heavy metal than hardcore.

That said, I admit that I really like "Sheer Heart Attack" and "A Night at the Opera," I give both a 4.

Whether May is a great guitarist is your opinion; some people think he is, others think he isn't. The Queen have a very recognizable sound, that's true (but maybe it's because I know almost all their albums by heart); I reiterate, however, that as composers they were quite banal – all four of them.
Dire Straits Dire Straits

My favorite album by Dire Straits. They would never reach these levels of class again, an album that flows smoothly and is a pleasure to listen to. Sultans of Swing is incredible, one of the most memorable songs ever.

Look, the "De Gustibus" is a perfect rule and I respect the tastes of those who love Queen just as much as those who love Britney Spears, but I have some reservations about the fact that Queen are extraordinary musicians. Brian May is a good professional but hasn't invented anything new; he doesn't have a particularly personal style and hasn't been influential on subsequent generations of guitarists. John Deacon and Roger Taylor do their job without any infamy or praise; they too have a decent but rather anonymous technique. The strong point is Freddie's voice, we all agree that it's stratospheric; but is the artistic value of a band judged by the vocal power of the singer? As a songwriter, Freddie is rather banal, immediate, and direct but banal nonetheless. Queen is a band that amazed me as a kid (I have their entire discography!) but ultimately they don't hold much artistic value. Bye.

I've only heard "Sack Full of Silver" by them, and I liked it quite a bit; I need to explore more. Great recommendation.

Odradek, I thank you for your thoughts on RipRig&Panic. These days I've listened to Y several times, and I must say it really impressed me. God struck me a bit less, but I need to listen to it more attentively. Mr. Sfascia, your de-reviews are eagerly awaited by me, both for the quality of the proposals and for the quality of the writing.

I add: an incredibly influential album on the generations that followed (even more so than Rock for Light), just think of the fellow townsmen Fugazi.

Your response makes everything clear (including my ignorance about Nietzsche), hi :)

A concise and perfect review. I've never listened to Tortoise, but I imagine I'll have to do it very soon (Millions Now Living...).
