Yes, of course, I knew who Mr. Grohl is. But you, instead of just saying he’s good, could have explained yourself better; now you have. The fact that he has collaborated with all those musicians doesn’t necessarily make him great, though. Nirvana (which you don’t mention, I don’t know why) were great, for sure, and some of the groups he collaborated with are quite relevant. Others, however, are more on the lower level: Queens of the Stone Age sold stoner to the masses, and the collaboration with Queen sounds to me like a disgusting purely commercial move. In my opinion, Grohl is someone who understands a lot about music, but with the Foo Fighters, he decided to make rock 'n' roll for the masses without any pretensions.

This is exactly why DeBaser is a precious thing, a place where music is discussed exclusively driven by passion. No reviewer is paid to do this; this is a truly free site.

@enribian: you say, "if we were music critics, we could afford to say who makes music with a capital M compared to others, but we can only limit ourselves to saying what we like and what we don't." Yes, but if we aren't at least a little critical, why bother writing the review? It's easy to just say "I like it" or "I don't like it," but if someone wants to write a review, they need to have a bit of critical spirit. Then, regarding the fact that the Foo Fighters are commercial, I DON'T CARE AT ALL. What do I care if they are commercial or not, whether they sell or not? That's certainly not the measure I adopt. A musician can sell millions of records and be a great artist, or they can sell 100 copies and be rubbish. Or the opposite can be true; the fact that they sell or not is absolutely indifferent to me.

Vivis, the fact that he is a great artist is not something that we can debate about, in my opinion! Why shouldn't we discuss it, huh? You expressed a personal opinion, and there could be others who don’t share your view, right? What leads you to assume that he has so much grit and passion? From the videos on MTV? There, he appears as they want him to appear, it seems obvious to me… (imagine a lot of smiling faces scattered throughout my posts, we can discuss things calmly and peacefully even if sometimes it may not seem so from the dryness of the responses)

Incredible, this is the best review of the first Metallica album ever published on DeB! I give you a generous 3...

Holy words, enribian, I don’t believe any of us were saying otherwise, though.

Easycure, I see you keep discussing the D.T. in your review. You have all my support (spiritual, nothing more) but I have the impression that you are wasting your time with thick-headed people who keep repeating the same things and can’t follow a line of reasoning. Well, if you’re having fun, good for you…

Detractors of the D.T.? HERE I AM! Too bad I have nothing to say, the review is excellent and doesn’t make the track-by-track description feel burdensome, which in other cases can be really annoying, even though I do not agree with the criteria you use to judge the music. I don’t know the album, so I can’t discuss it, bye.

We reflect, you don’t seem to. "Great Grohl and that's it" is truly a thought-provoking reflection.

(I’m still referring to the reviewer, eh, about what you said, Gemma, I can only agree.)
