This album is self-indulgent to a monstrous degree. Stuff like: "oh, look how amazing I am with the guitar, now I'll play this impossible, super-fast riff for 10 minutes straight." Dragons, yes, but unbearable ones.

@hugoniot: indeed Too High To Die is their best-selling album (besides being perhaps the worst, what a shame).

Grandiose Meat Puppets, what crooked heads. The third piece of the trio of trios at SST: Husker Du / Minutemen / Meat Puppets. This album is far inferior to the previous four, yet it's still quality stuff. Heavily influenced by ZZ Top (starting with the title). It's not true that they haven't gone mainstream, huh: when they played at MTV Unplugged with Nirvana, they released an album (Too High To Die) that was outrageously mainstream. But that's fine.

Walter, there’s nothing wrong with knowing 4/5 groups, really. The problem is that you’re firing off judgments about the History of Music that are unacceptable, and with an air of condescension that’s hard to bear. Fortunately, your posts are so full of contradictions that they’re often amusing to read (revisit the mega-response you gave me a few comments above, come on, it’s embarrassing).

But it's not true that (speaking of the 80s) those groups didn't gain the attention of the general public due to their own shortcomings; don't generalize. They didn't get it because they didn't want it, or because they targeted a certain audience, or because they refused to compromise with record labels, or because they didn't have enough money to distribute their records widely, or because they didn't have enough money for decent advertising, or, or, or, there are millions of possible reasons. It's not true that only those who are worthy reach the top.

Walter, sorry for the heated tones earlier. One piece of advice: I think you should read a biography of Fugazi. You'll realize that they're neither rich nor stupid. And try listening to them, come on. You might like them.
