Oh, I almost forgot Donjunio and ajejebrazof: they are also far from punk rockers. You can easily check. Really, I don't understand you: first, you say not to rely on stereotypes, then you fall into them in a truly excessive way.

Bjork68, your latest comments left me a bit taken aback. What a shame because until now we had been speaking well. "They like to shove their obscure bands in other people's faces." But if you had to insist before getting a list!!! Come on, please. "The punks here just came to provoke in a progressive review." Where? Where do you see them? There are three of us talking here: me, you, and squalo, with a few comments from pretazzo (who I assure you, is not someone who only listens to punk, quite the opposite). "Punks are notoriously misogynistic, punks are notoriously snobbish": useless generalizations, moreover inadequate to the discussion we were having. @squalo: I wouldn't know, those bands communicate a lot to me. Zen Arcade, for example, is one of the most exciting albums in the history of rock, in my opinion. Anyway, it’s true that in the early '90s, riding the wave of Nevermind's success, there was an explosion of bands that revived and standardized (or rather banalized) the sound of the '80s underground, making it definitely more accessible to the average radio listener. But we don't want to be average radio listeners, do we? Otherwise, we wouldn't be here discussing.

Bjork, now you fall into a really inappropriate stereotype. There’s no punk freak on this page.

bjork68, those groups did indeed invent something new. Here on DeB, we've talked about it a lot; I refer you to the reviews already made (not mine, because they suck...). It's not true that we respond with more questions. "Excuse me, but for you, does what enters the charts go down in history, or what brings innovative and substantial momentum?" for example, has a question mark but isn't a question.

"To make history, my dear, you have to be at least a little famous": Oh no, oh no!!! So, since you care so much, I’ll answer the 2 questions, even though I don't see how this could change anything: I’m 24 years old. Bands from the 80s that are better than U2 and the Police? Here's a list, trimming down what I have in my personal file: Bad Brains, Big Black, Bitch Magnet, Blind Idiot God, Bongwater, Butthole Surfers, Camper Van Beethoven, Cows, Fall, Feedtime, Flaming Lips, Foetus, Fugazi, Gun Club, Hüsker Dü, Iceburn, Legal Weapon, Meat Puppets, Minutemen, Mission Of Burma, My Bloody Valentine, Naked City, Naked Raygun, Nick Cave, NoMeansNo, Opal, Pixies, Rapeman, Red Temple Spirits, Replacements, Rip Rig + Panic, Savage Republic, Scratch Acid, Slint, Sonic Youth, Squirrel Bait, Tragic Mulatto.

Sorry, but for you does it go down in history what enters the charts or what provides innovative and substantial support?

You say: "grunge was a happy and creative chapter of the 90s, where we finally went back to substance, leaving image behind." Well, for you, was substance only regained with the rise of grunge? Really, I don’t understand how you can ignore an entire decade…

I wasn't upset with you, and it's not true that nothing works for me. It's an impression that this page leaves me with, and, more generally, the nostalgic people of the 70s. Why did you jump straight from '77 to grunge? The 80s weren't just U2, Police, Guns'N'Roses, and Metal, come on. I repeat: you're missing out on the best.

But why, when talking about rock, do you jump from '77 straight to grunge? There was a lot of fantastic rock in between; you just have to dig a little deeper than what MTV was offering. In my opinion, you're missing out on the best...
