I know them because the great Scott "Wino" Weinrich has played with them, and unfortunately, I have to say that among all the wino-things, their album I have (With Vision) is one of the ones I like the least. As you say: "first Pentagram, just a little less fuzzy" ---> bad, "Spirit Caravan, just a little less stoned" ---> too bad. Tastes vary. It's also true that the Pentagram, after Victor Griffin's departure, revitalized quite a bit, but here I might say something silly, I'm not too informed on that front. Less professional review than usual ---> good :)

I could never stand Mascis and I didn’t listen to the latest Beyond, but I don’t think it will be that album to breathe new life into the contemporary rock scene (if there’s really a need for it). I just can’t get past the melodic side of the Dinosaurs, the fact that, after all, they’re a country band in a noise version. And I say this as a huge fan of Neil Young (28 albums and counting). I might give this self-titled one a listen. Always great Donjunio.

Well, half a crap I wouldn't know. A nice little film (I wouldn't know what to say about the clumsily Eastern kitsch, I don't know much about it), definitely not at the level of the others. I definitely don't agree with El Guevo when he says that Dead Man is Jarmusch's worst film and when he claims that the review highlights the fact that one hasn't seen the other films. Who knows, now that I've seen them I wouldn't change a word and Dead Man remains one of my all-time favorite films. Cheers.

Update: I also watched Stranger Than Paradise and Ghost Dog. Now I can say that Dead Man is the one that strays the most from the "Jarmusch style," both in terms of dialogue and theme, as well as in how the film is handled. Ghost Dog is the closest (the fat nigga-samurai was also a 'dead man'), although I have to admit it was a bit (quite a lot) of a disappointment. Stranger Than Paradise I would say is almost sublime and definitely the pinnacle of his filmmaking. Coming next: Mystery Train and Broken Flowers. Haloah

PiPer, I don't think it's necessary to be scandalized by a clearly biased editorial, something that has happened before anyway. Moreover, I believe it was published in response to an opposing editorial from a few days ago, just to provide balance. That said, I agree with you, I would keep politics out of DeB. The link suggested by psychopompe is interesting.

Hi Antmo, I've listened to this a couple of times and, as a layman (I only have Demon Box and Trust Us), I can say that it’s really not bad at all. A band that I promise to explore more in the years to come.

typo: *quite the opposite* I want to add: I appreciate your tendency to suggest things not yet present on DeB, which is a rare commodity among de-reviewers (especially the newcomers), as well as your ability to write well and with great expertise. Allow me a thought, whether you agree or not: in my opinion, the DeBaser site shouldn't be considered a database to dump things written elsewhere (imagine if a megalomaniac like Scaruffi arrived, help me) but rather a forum (the beauty, in my opinion, lies precisely in the fact that the reviewer doesn't have the final word) where we can share a passion (music) with others through writing. Even in a spontaneous manner. Not like professionals. Hopefully with heart. Bye

I also like stoner, just like many other things :) I swear I don't have earmuffs and the only intent of my comment was a (hopeful) reconciliation after the quarrel over the alleged copying (which turned out not to be the case). There was no other intention, but if you prefer, I’ll leave you alone right away. (Anyway, I would never define Spiritual Beggars and sHHEAVY as essential, quite the opposite :) )

Me and 80s melodic rock just don’t get along. The review is well done, although a bit cold. Regards.
