I totally agree with CAZ on everything, especially on one thing: let’s stop buying records in stores. It really doesn’t make sense. Buying them online costs half the price, they come straight to your home, and you can find things that you wouldn’t discover in the most specialized Italian shops. The only way to make those damn CD prices go down is to buy them elsewhere for less. 10-12 euros, otherwise forget it. Paying full price of 18-20€ is pure madness. PS: Houdini is definitely available. Out of print are the ones on AmRep (Prick and Honky) and the one on Man's Ruin (Electroretard) because the respective record labels have closed down. But you can still find those, if you look carefully.

AlessioIRIDE: I'll say it once and for all. I follow your reviews because you hang around stuff that I listen to too (noise, post-hardcore) but your way of behaving and discussing with others here on DeB is arrogant, prejudiced, aggressive, and annoying. You demonstrated this as soon as you arrived (and in an identical discussion about the Melvins). You confirmed it in this month (more or less, I’m not keeping count) of being on DeB. And finally here and on your review of Houdini Live. Please learn some humility, take off your blinders, and if you really don’t feel like broadening your listening horizons at least show some respect for your interlocutors and don’t engage in futile arguments with people who know a lot more than you (..caz..). And with this, I’ll close it.

The Melvins have created, thrived, and made stunning records even within certain metal genre. Doom metal, for example. Sludge metal. Drone. Have you ever heard drone? It’s metal. The first 10 minutes of Lysol are drone ---> The first 10 minutes of Lysol are metal. Check out Sleep, Electric Wizard, Earth, SunnO)))—all METAL bands for real. And I’m only naming the 4 most well-known, because in the metal scene of the nineties, the Melvins were probably the most influential band. You can plug your ears and repeat that it’s not so if you want. And you can call me a fool too if that’s what you want.

To Donj I say: when I first listened to Warehouse, I was quite disappointed. It was the only album of theirs that left me feeling that way. Perhaps because it’s much more mushy than the previous ones, perhaps because it's too long (unlike Zen Arcade, 70-plus minutes that fly by in an instant). Maybe because Grant Hart and Bob Mould worked well together but separately they don’t amount to much, and Warehouse is the album where the divide between the two is most apparent. It’s true that over time it grows (and surpasses Candy Apple Grey), also because it has some excellent songs.

Anyway, I would also reassess the merit of Nirvana in "bringing to light." That's something Sonic Youth had been doing for a while (and that the Nirvana themselves brought to Geffen). And anyway, today with the internet, soulseek, and all that jazz, we certainly make a lot of the importance of Nevermind in that sense. Still, it remains an excellent album to start exploring.

I've listened to Il Teatro degli Orrori too (on the advice of AlessioIRIDE): an Italian version of the Jesus Lizard. My comment is: I don't know.

The Nirvana, in terms of artistic stature, don't even come close to those monsters from just a few years earlier who truly revolutionized the way of thinking about and playing rock. The operation of Nirvana was to bring to the surface what had been submerged, with beautiful songs but certainly not new ones. It's clear that it doesn't boil down to just this, but I believe this was their most significant contribution (which sent the flourishing underground world to hell, but that's another story).
