Do you think otherwise? Anyway, in the end it seems to me that we’re all more or less in agreement: hardcore can be beautiful, but what came after is better. Or not?

Then the Minutemen have nothing old-school about them. No wailing screams, no loud guitars, no violence, no pogo.

The Minutemen started in '81. Hardcore was born in '78, if I’m not mistaken, so the chronological order makes perfect sense.

Well, the Minutemen were not old-school at all, on the contrary.

Anyway, I think hardcore was essential for the evolution of rock, a true turning point (not to mention the so-called punk of the Sex Pistols).

Sanjuro, you took the words right out of my mouth :) In particular, I quote: "they were too busy making scorched earth around" and "the real leap in quality will come with the post." Old school bands that I really like? None, I think. There are bands I respect but don’t listen to.

What can I say, pretazzo, I completely agree with you. As for P.Scaruffi, please step aside. Besides, this is good old spam (not to mention a real pain in the neck).

Look, Pretazzo, it's obvious that every band adds its own touch (especially when you're talking about the "bigger" ones, like the ones you mentioned) but you can't deny that hardcore follows very specific canons, perhaps more than any other genre. Shouted vocals, angry and brash, three chords played at a thousand miles an hour and hyper-distorted, zero melody. Hardcore is the denial of musicality. You can talk about nuances for any genre. Hardcore, by its nature, is non-musical; the nuances that everyone adds to it make it interesting. Otherwise, it would even be pointless to talk about different bands; it's obvious that Germs differ from Minor Threat. That said, I prefer the Cows a thousand times over (just to name one randomly) compared to any old school HC band. But here we probably enter the (sacred) field of de-gustibus.

Throbbing Gristle Part Two: The Endless Not

I don't know, I was referring to the phrase in the review "An album that truly runs for album of the year (come on, let's wait and see what the Neurosis have come up with...)". I haven't heard the one by Neurosis. Mementomori seems a bit too much on the industrial-postmetal side when talking about album of the year.
