Grinderman Grinderman

Birthday Party, first Cave, Gullon Drunk, Gun Club, all better than Grinderman, but that doesn't take away from the fact that this is a nice little record. After all, it's just a matter of taste, even if it seems like it's not just you who doesn't like it ;) I'm scaling back the review, which is indeed overly sensationalistic. Still, it’s true that it sounds like it was recorded in mud. I wouldn't know about shovels in the face.

Rece a bit exaggerated.

I mean, practically EVERYONE is here EXCEPT Electric Wizard. Who should be the first!! Still, it’s nice that at least someone thanks them (label mates aside).

From an interview on the web: URLO: It’s strange how a lot of people categorize us into ‘buckets’, like stoner or doom, to which we feel completely unrelated. I’ve always thought our songs were much closer to the experiments of the Beatles and Pink Floyd, rather than to Cathedral or bands like Electric Wizard, which, by the way, I can’t even listen to…
From another interview: POIA: Among the mentioned groups (Khanate, Kyuss, Goatsnake, We, Warhorse, Burning Witch, Boris, EW, Sleep), only the Kyuss of Blues For The Red Sun (and only that album) and Sleep have been our reference points, seminal bands with different sound intentions, aside from the heaviness... Electric Wizard is a derivative band. I don’t know the others very well.
VITA: Personally, I don’t closely follow the musical trends of the mentioned groups, I occasionally listen to Kyuss and Sleep, and as for Electric Wizard, I’ve never liked them. I’ve only heard the others by name; my inspirations draw more from the psychedelia of the '60s and the hard rock of the '70s rather than, with all due respect, from contemporary musical genres. By the way, I don’t think Ufomammut has ever played stoner…

I don't understand one thing: Electric Wizard are considered by everyone (myself included) the best of the best in the acid doom scene. Yet I've never found them mentioned in the usual "thanks" sections within the booklets. Neither in Yob's (who mention around thirty bands) nor anywhere else. Ufomammut even seems to disdain them. Who knows, maybe they're just unpleasant.

I don't know the collaboration with Bonnie Prince Billy (but they say bad things about it...), however, the one with The Ex (In the Fishtank) is beautiful. @Antmo: if you still feel like Tortoise, get it. Some tracks are definitely worth having. Do you miss the first self-titled one? I would get that too :)
