Flinstone, in my opinion, is just a matter of habit. Tastes are also a question of the ear becoming accustomed to certain sounds. For example, too much melody annoys me :) The Stickmen don't just make noise (for that, try Wolf Eyes or the Flying Luttenbachers, for instance), but create music with identifiable coordinates (funk, to name one). Melody, harmony, singing, rhythm are all elements that belong to this record. I repeat: it's a matter of habit, not "music vs noise."

@pretazzo & flinstone: I may be depraved, but I actually find listening to this album quite pleasant. What do you mean by "let's step out of the realm of commonly understood music"?

Waldo, I asked you because your comment seemed gratuitous and aimed at sparking controversy (but you clarified); it’s too easy to shoot judgments without providing evidence (like in the horrible page about Sum41 that is now on the homepage).

High on Fire live are insane! Matt Pike unleashes an incredible energy and plays in a very unique way (Sabbath-like riffs played in reverse, like rewinding a tape - his words).

No Bartle, what have I done!! And above all, how did I do it? I don't remember writing doom-metal reviews.

It comes out on September 18th. In short, in a month.

Fuck, the album comes out on September 7th. And damn, see what you make me say? But what’s the rush, the beauty of DeBaser is that the reviews are written by enthusiasts who listen to and love the albums, not by velociraptors that pounce on their prey as soon as they see it. And fuck, how can you speak knowledgeably about an album after listening to a promo downloaded from the internet for just two days? Anyway: my IMPRESSIONS are pretty much the same as yours: an album of barbaric and ignorant violence (in the positive sense of the term), produced more rotten than the previous one (I didn't like Albini with HoF), filthy. Devastating for the sake of being so. In short, it's good but a bit of a kick in the teeth. The fact remains that you've also said a bunch of (for me) bullshit and that this latest work (like the others) is literally crushed by the unreachable (and very different) debut "The Art of Self Defense."

For me, the pinnacle of funk-punk was the Minutemen.

Great pretazzo! "Review" that I fully agree with (you're leaving behind your very detailed contextual analyses) and the (unknown) group of the Madonna. Disconnected funk from a criminal asylum, stunning. @emofiliaco "but after eonio that on this site there was an attempt to make objectivism triumph" ?? That's not true, quite the opposite actually. Long live "I like it because," down with "it's important therefore."
