My estimation of Vecchioni took a sharp decline when I heard him declare on TV that it is impossible for the right to produce culture and artists. Unjustified arrogance.

I subscribe to longliverock. I believe there is nothing to object to... I would add that the U2 themselves are in some ways indebted to the Beatles (the great sense of melody and Bono's vocal line). "Window in the skies" I think is a beautiful example.

My idea is that Achtung Baby is the most innovative and cohesive album by U2 (Zooropa is a step below, while Pop is filled with cool stuff and some less so). Regarding the '80s, the first two albums are raw but full of great ideas (the first track of Boy was none other than "I will follow"), War is wonderful, The Unforgettable Fire a true stylistic turning point (with the support of Brian Eno and Lanois), The Joshua Tree a masterpiece, "Rattle and Hum" encyclopedic and very pleasant... Enough with the story that U2 are commercial. If I'm not mistaken, the Beatles were too, but they are the greatest band that ever existed... Am I wrong?? Over and out.

xAle 87: I cited 4 albums instead of listing a ton of them, enough with your tirades against the U2 and your elevation of "Violator" (which I bought and was quite disappointed with) to extraordinary status that has been going on for months now. Don’t act like a child, grasp the essence of the discussion and not just what you want.

Indeed, I believe the problem is the following: music is art, and like many other arts (cinema, sculpture, painting, etc.), it has its own pillars that are objectively and universally recognized (for example, the White Album by the Beatles, The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, Born to Run by the Boss, or Achtung Baby by U2), just as in sculpture "La Pietà" by Michelangelo or in painting "Venus" by Botticelli. Now, there are those who think it's very cool to desecrate these works of art just to feel outside the box or because they are caught in a mad attack of intellectual masochism (do you really enjoy being lectured like teachers did with children??). Your provocations deserve indifference, but unfortunately, we find ourselves (myself included) once again defending our totems.

Review very well written but I can't agree with the content. The Beatles have been considered the greatest of all time precisely for the innovative nature of their music or perhaps for having founded modern music. And you come to tell me that they are recyclers, that there is some Pupo in them and that their sound always seems the same??? The Beatles had an incredible evolution in their career (which lasted less than 10 years), producing masterpiece after masterpiece. And who ever said that if you're under the influence of drugs you have to use acid guitars like Hendrix?? I'm sorry but this review is filled with snobbery to the core.

A disk that brushes against masterpiece status, though there might be a few filler tracks here and there. Above everything and everyone, Slash and Izzy stand out, while the others seem like mere supporting characters in the face of their energy and skill. I'm curious to know how you remember all those personal details. Did you maybe romanticize it a bit? ;)
