Sting Songs From The Labyrinth
Voto:
I haven't listened to the album, and I believe that after reading this panegyric, I won't even listen to it (even though I have a perverse curiosity for such faux-snob operations that end up being trash). But the review, like many of yours, has put me in a good mood and deserves a 5 (the idea of Viola Valentino on backing vocals is brilliant).
Carlos Santana All That I Am
Voto:
That today's Santana has very little in common with the magical one from "Abraxas" (even though my favorite is "Mother Earth," 1969) and that he has almost reduced himself to being a session musician on his own records (this one came out well!) is an axiom. If the least unbearable track on this album is truly "Just Feel Better," I can't imagine the rest.
The Notting Hillbillies Missing...Presumed Having A Good Time

Nice review, with interesting notes (especially the one about the origins of blues). I rediscovered this record after years and layers of dust... I think Mark K. and his mates had a lot of fun recording it, and the best part is that they manage to convey their "good time."
Nico Chelsea Girl

"No, not the debate!"... and yes, I expected it a bit, giving 5 stars to an album that many critics overlook ("24.000 dischi" doesn't even rate it). I believe that the evaluation of "beauty" is never purely rational and one could talk about it for hours without arriving at any conclusion: personally, I consider the combination of music-lyrics-arrangements-performan ce very important, but what truly makes me love an album is an emotional "plus" entirely.
Speaking of Nico, I also love "Desertshore" very much, surely more mature, but I don't think it makes sense to compare it with "Chelsea Girl": that is excellent avant-garde, this is a folk-pop that in my opinion is equally excellent and far from "light".

For Pietro Minchiadura: the vinyl of "La finestra dentro" and the CD version released in 1991 (unfortunately out of print) have skyrocketed in value... therefore, while waiting for a reissue (but it seems Juri isn't in a hurry...) the only way to get it without going crazy and breaking the bank is to look for it on e-mule. A few years ago "La convenzione" was released, a collection of '70s rarities by Battiato and Camisasca, where you can listen to "Galantuomo," "Il regno dell'Eden," and two tracks by Juri released only on 45s. With a bit of luck, you can find it for 5-6 €.

Great Pep, you made me crack up laughing. As for the album, from the way you describe it, I think it’s a huge pain in the ass, but reinterpreted in a trashy way, it could be fun.

For marcoraganato: got it! :-) But there's also a zodiac reference...
Francesco Guccini Amerigo
Voto:
Almost a masterpiece. "Amerigo" is one of the most poignant portraits in the Guccini gallery (the character was indeed a great-uncle of Guccini, who mentions him in his first book, "Croniche epafàniche"), while "100 Pennsylvania Ave." and "Eskimo" are letters that speak of the end of youthful dreams with disillusionment and irony. The atheist prayer of "Libera nos Domine" seems to have been written yesterday. It's a pity that the album closes with two rather dispensable tracks ("Mondo nuovo," moreover, has a terrible arrangement). But it happens.
