Sonic Youth Daydream Nation

I also quote the last message from Arnold Layne, which further demonstrates the musical idiocy of Azzo! What the hell kind of story is that? Music is a universal way of expression; it’s an art form that can communicate the full range of human emotions. Often behind the anger and frustration, there’s just the desire to make a racket and a lack of musical preparation (and few ideas, I might add).

Damn, I only read your reply to me and not the sure bullshit you spewed afterwards: damn, I don’t care that you don’t like Genesis and that you think prog is crap; those are your tastes. But when you say idiocies like "how can you listen to Genesis and Sonic Youth at the same time," just think for a moment and realize that you’ve said something really stupid that actually shows that "musically," of course, you have a limited brain. My offense stops there, not at your person whom I don’t know and wouldn’t judge anyway. Bye.

What a drag the alternative fans are, so stuck in their little brains. But come on, is it really that inconceivable that someone could like both Genesis and Sonic Youth? Goodness, sometimes you sound like Manowar fans: "kill the poser, kill the progressive." Ugh! The album is a masterpiece, no doubt about it!

I agree with Ghemison's comment. Your criticism of Daydream Nation Publisher seems a bit spoiled to me. I don't see anything pop in it (at most some influences); rather, it's an album that can appeal even to those who despise Sonic Youth, but that's certainly not a flaw. The noisy experiments and everything brought to completion in the previous albums are also present in DN. It's an album packaged better, with a better production, where in many cases more importance is given to the song form. However, even in "Evol," as you were told, there were tracks that you remembered after the first listen. To tell you the truth, while I appreciate Evol, I believe that the work done on DN is more complex. In Evol, they were definitely more instinctual and raw, so there's less "work." Reading an interview with Sonic Youth, they stated that some of their "more melodic" sound choices in previous albums were also due to the fact that while playing, they couldn't hear each other. The comparison with "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd doesn't hold; they are different evolutions, and I really can't see DN as the Dark Side... of Sonic Youth.

Wow, they played several tracks from Daydream Nation, their most beautiful album (in my opinion). How I would have loved to be there too. Nice review, but it has the flaw of being "alessioride" and I’m noticing that this is a flaw of many Sonic Youth fans who swear by other bands while declaring the superiority of their own.

Anyway, I wanted to add that thrash with Pantera, Machine Head, and also with some Swedish bands has managed to innovate even in the '90s. Of course, there are still clichés in these groups (after all, we're still talking about a specific genre with its own peculiarities), but this couldn't be said in the '80s when it was an absolute novelty. Reign in Blood is an album that sounds modern, violent, and aggressive even today!

Hello, what a beautiful crowd!!!! I've only listened to Razorblade Romance by HIM and I like it as an album. I take it for what it is, a pleasant melodic rock album with some dark influences, with a filthy and erotic atmosphere, great songs that also work well as background music for getting laid (sorry for the vulgarity). On TV, they praise a lot of pop crap, so instead of listening to some super-commercialized pop garbage from MTV, it would be much better if teenagers turned to HIM; they’d grow up better (and from there, maybe they’ll discover the true masterpieces). Compared to Evanescence and similar bands, I find HIM to have a bit more class, also because fortunately, there's not the slightest trace of nu-metal in their proposal, and if the singer is a bit pretentious, good for him. I'm straight, but Ville Valo, with his androgynous vibe, is definitely intriguing in his own way, and rock has often used physical image to promote itself! Great review!

decent review, you too mention clichés and stereotypes regarding thrash metal which was anything but banal and stereotyped at the time, at least until 1990 (let's say until Rust in Peace), it was something new in the landscape not just of metal. Then it’s normal that once the innovative drive and novelty wore off, many clichés and stereotypes emerged. Anyway, other than that, a standard review!
