Ingmar Bergman Il settimo sigillo

I believe it is right to evaluate the film on its own merits and not based on Bergman's filmography. It is certainly a masterpiece; I only know 3 of Bergman's films (including this one), and perhaps he has done better work, but it is undoubtedly a masterpiece.

An overrated album, though undeniably beautiful; the problem is that alongside "beautiful" people then exaggerate by labeling it as a masterpiece, stunning, the best band in the world, etc. The reviewer also makes bold claims (the best guitar album ever), but how many albums have you listened to? In fact, in the alternative rock scene, I find Sonic Youth to be more distinctive (in their use of guitar). As for the rest, don’t exaggerate; for example, unheard guitar riffs in "sludgefast"? Maybe you’ve never heard a metal album, especially that final riff screams Bay Area (thrash metal that was born years earlier). In short, it’s a mind-blowing song and unheard of for someone who knows little about metal (I understand that in an indie context it might get you excited). So, all this fuss just to say it’s a nice album, but a bit too idolized.

I join jawbreaker, so what? Here, no one, including myself, discusses the sensibleness or lack thereof of black metal ideology. We all know how dangerous and ridiculous a character like Burzum is. Black metal, at least in its origins, had an ideology; some were misanthropic and satanic, while others spoke of native traditions thrown aside by Christianity (the hatred towards Christianity was perhaps one of the points of contact). Personally, when I listened to metal during my "metalhead" phase, I was never a blackster, so when I listened to Burzum, I didn't do it for the ideology; I was never interested in these things in music, especially since in black metal, it was anger, more than politics, that prevailed.

The review is amusing, but many musical genres were born in an even more uncouth way than black metal, to whose founders we must acknowledge the fact that they genuinely believed in what they were doing and demonstrated it through their actions. In terms of sincerity, I think that the sincerity of black metal bands is more real than that of many indie and alternative rock bands, which often hide their musical and compositional shortcomings behind intellectual wankery as faux-depressed losers, only to settle with some major label afterward. From this perspective, Fenriz from Darkthrone, for example, continues to refuse to sell his albums to a major label in order to play 1 or 2 live shows every 5 or 6 years and often self-produces his albums. Currently, black metal doesn't resonate with me (except for 3 or 4 albums I'm still attached to), but I haven't seen in the founding bands what you see. Keep in mind that Mayhem and Darkthrone started out playing death metal and abandoned it when the genre became famous and oversaturated, choosing a sound that better represented their thoughts and their land. Perhaps black metal is the most ideological genre that exists along with punk.

Poletti, I have no prejudices against you; when you were right, I said so. But unfortunately, you have the same flaw you had when commenting on music reviews: arrogance and judgment that come not from listening but from hearsay. You wrote: <<"American Pie" has not set a precedent for anything because it comes straight from "Porky's" (college students with crushes). And it all starts with "Porky's," this is just a continuation of that genre.>> You haven't seen the film and you make such an assertion. Let it be clear, I'm not defending American Pie, which is a mediocre film, but perhaps if you were more humble and fair in your judgments, especially since you are good at writing reviews.

I don't regret watching American Pie, Poletti. I saw it many years ago when I was a teenager, and I had a lot of laughs. In my opinion, you have to watch a film before judging it. It's certainly not a masterpiece, nor a film to remember, but the fact that you make comparisons with other films without having seen it says a lot about your judgments, even those from the past. Regarding Buffy, I don't think this is the right place to discuss it, but I'll just say that in Italy, and only here, it's considered a series for teenagers, which is wrong. It has significantly revolutionized the concept of TV series. The reason many current TV shows can compete with and often surpass Hollywood productions (in terms of scripts and so on) is also thanks to shows like Buffy. Believe it or not, as a cinema enthusiast, I think you would really appreciate some episodes and the use of photography and direction. The fact is that a product grows with its audience, and judging it based on one episode (since it's a hybrid of genres) is a mistake.

I would add that I would rewatch the film mainly for Alyson Hannigan, whom I adored in Buffy (the best TV series ever made, unfairly penalized in Italy by censorship and an awful dubbing).

In the days when I was a teenager, I had a lot of fun with it. I should revisit it to see how it would affect me today. Anyway, in fact, Animal House, Porky's, all those film genres are the parents of many current movies like American Pie, even if their style is still different (of course, Poletti reading the encyclopedias wouldn't know that; he repeats the same old spiel, and I bet he hasn't even seen the film). Animal House and Porky's are absurd, while here the absurdity is less emphasized.

metalheads, indie-snobs, hipsters, emos, all one big family. Anyway, I don’t see what the problem is if there are plenty of metal reviews; just get to work and write reviews of non-metal albums and you will see that the percentage of non-metal albums on the homepage will increase. Isn’t this a site open to everyone? I don’t understand why if so many metal reviews come out, some people get so worked up about it.

In my opinion, in the final experiment the change of voices was less noticeable than, for example, in the album "into electric castle."
