Oh, I almost forgot, if you haven't done it yet, read my review on Infinity. It might be a bit lacking in content, but I tried to put more soul into it than anything else.

I love Journey even though I only have 2 of their albums (Infinity and Departure). I give you top marks, not only for the excellent review but also for the quote from the immense "Lights." Songs like that don't exist anymore today. I'm not yet familiar with the AOR period of Journey, but I'll catch up soon.
Dark Tranquillity Projector

the best of dark tranquillity in my opinion! A somewhat boring and long review (which isn’t a bad thing, but in this case it is).

If we stick to the metal side (because otherwise we would have to mention a lot of others), I feel like recommending the now-defunct Criss Oliva and especially listening to "Streets" and "Edge of Thorns" (in the latter album, his best performance; Paul Gilbert is also a monster, but in his projects like Mr. Big, he preferred to shape the songs and never showed gratuitous technique). In a more extreme realm, I think Loomis from Nevermore is quite a piece (and personal). I haven't named the best, but some of the most original in their touch, also because playing the guitar well doesn't just mean having good technique (in fact, in Hendrix's case, it was an added bonus) but especially feeling and a close, fusion relationship with the instrument. The guitarists of Slayer are good composers, but otherwise, they don't do much and often rehash the same scales, becoming a bit repetitive; however, in their genre, they are grandiose. If you want to listen to a thrash album with great technique and guitar feeling, I think the best example is "Rust in Peace" by Megadeth. In that album, there is true technique and not just a desire to show how bad and fast you can be!
Kansas Dust In The Wind

Yes Roby, I think confining them to prog isn't fair, especially since in the '80s they turned to a more melodic and soaring rock, completely abandoning certain progressive sounds. Let's say that in the '70s they were among the few bands that mixed European prog with American rock and folk (there are even country influences in some songs).

Well done, you were entertaining and thorough. However, for me, copies often turn out better than the original; in fact, the first draft of a drawing is usually rough and a poor imitation. What I mean is that it’s not absurd to say that the students (symphony x, adagio, etc.) can surpass the master. On a personal level, Malmsteen rubs me the wrong way, but when it comes to musical discourse, I can't really comment since I've only listened to a few tracks distractedly. From what little I've heard, he doesn't bring anything new or sensational; perhaps he only has speed!
