I’ll say this regarding art.
That is, contemporary art (modern art even includes De Chirico, one of the greatest artists in history, so I wouldn’t talk about modern art in this case) is much less sincere and genuine compared to classical art, and I’ll explain right away why.
In the past, only those artists who truly had worth emerged because there was a very rigid method of learning that initiated a natural selection based on actual talent.
Years were spent in the workshops of masters, and apprentices were subjected to an endless series of hardships and humiliations. Essentially, apprentices were true slaves to their mentors.
Today, however, and I’m not afraid of any discussions on this, do you know what the real measure of so-called artistic value is? THE MARKET, that is, GALLERY OWNERS. It follows logically, then, that in contemporary times, the criteria for defining someone as an artist are very ephemeral and subjective.
Just look at, for example, Cattelan’s installations. Please don’t call him an artist, or my poor neoclassical heart might be affected ;-D.
That said, everyone is free to think as they wish, and, I repeat, for me Reznor is not an artist (especially when compared to Jaz Coleman, one of his inspiring muses) but at best a composer who has made a fortune thanks to some of his insights.
Just my opinion, don’t get angry ;-D.

I may also be one of those who pissed off Joan, but I repeat, in my opinion, Reznor is an artist just like Basquiat. That is to say, a writer who went down in history as a great artist (also due to his early departure), but, in my view, his paintings were anything but art.
