System Of A Down Hypnotize

I agree... the album doesn't shine, but it's worth a listen...
I knew "Kill Rock & Roll" even before Mezmerize was released, I had a live version and... it seems impossible, but it's even better live!!

Honestly, I don't think it falls into the plagiarized mess, and I don't think the album is crap either... simply put, there are better dt albums out there. I would have given it a 3 considering the subsequent albums, but, damn, it’s a "debut" album that's certainly not lacking in strength and originality... I reiterate what I said about Dominici: I don't like how he manages his voice; his search for expressiveness takes precedence over his good taste... what a pity, because he didn't have a bad voice...

Honestly, I prefer the later albums... I understand they can be quite divisive, but with more listens, I think they are truly amazing... Anyway... de-gustibus... this is also my first review... bear with me...

Dream Theater Octavarium
Voto:
enough.....this same scene repeats itself too often....with every album release by Dream Theater, some hail it as a miracle, a rebirth, while others proclaim its downfall.....
and yet it doesn't seem that difficult to me: do you want to understand that every album they make is separate??...I mean (except perhaps for Scenes from a Memory, which is a masterpiece), every album they release is independent from the others...it has been the case for Awake, for Falling into Infinity, for 6DOIT, for Train of Thought, and it is so for Octavarium as well....I know it’s tough: but try not knowing them and listening to Train of Thought, or the aforementioned Octavarium, as if they were the work of your great-uncle’s band....my comment would have been: "what the hell of a great-uncle!!."
that said, which won’t solve anything, I like the album, and a lot...I also liked Train of Thought...but perhaps we have been spoiled by masterpieces like "Images & Words" and the like.....which album wouldn’t seem like real trash compared to these??...but that doesn’t mean that the latest ones are objectively trash....in my opinion, they are doing a great job...considering also the fate of other bands of the same genre and era (Metallica after the Black Album, let’s not even talk about it; Iron Maiden keep repeating the same damn stuff, which still kicks ass; etc.)
the rating is 4...they could certainly have done better, but also much, much, much worse...
