I’m sorry, but there’s a lot to say about this album, and forget about the lyrics which don't seem like these pearls of wisdom. The music is anything but black; it’s undoubtedly a great album, but in your review, you only highlighted the worst aspects of this truly successful work, which managed to reach the ears of an audience that had previously dismissed the genre out of prejudice.

I don't agree that the black album is poorly produced; rather, in terms of recording quality, for me it remains the best. The songs aren't that great, it's true, and when it was released it was a tremendous disappointment, but it's still worth listening to. Lars remains the weak link among the four, and in this album (but also in ...and justice) his lack of technical preparation is very evident, but he does his job. I'm not rating the review because I think it's more of a rant than an analysis of this little disc...

Great debut, very interesting album. As for boredom, I personally find that in most of their discography there is a widespread tendency towards self-celebration, resulting often in an album of over 60 minutes where 20 can be discarded. Besides a few episodes, I have always found them rather cold... LaBrie has a great voice, but live he moves terribly, like a wooden man!!!!!

In my opinion, it remains a solid 3. The album flows well, the voice is excellent, with great control and outstanding technique. This is an R'n B album, keep that in mind!
