As Gianpaolone demonstrates today, even ideals are commercial.

Varg Vikernes: "Well done Rasty, I approve what you said. Gabry Ponte is just a cunt who doesn't even deserve to have a review on this site. It's disgusting that people like him make money while in Italy we have a ton of promising underground bands that work their asses off and get nothing but crumbs." WELL SAID!!!

Sugarcult Lights Out

I listened to it a couple of times, and I didn't like it. There's a good stylistic twist, no doubt about it, but they are unrecognizable. At certain points, they remind me of Muse and a certain Brit Pop... then again, maybe it's just my impression. Some tracks are good, but it's all too vague and lacks impact. For the occasion, I re-listened to their first album "Start Static," and I found it more immediate and fun. Their maturation reminds me a bit of Sum 41: "Half Hour of Power"/"All Killer No Filler" are very commercial albums, "Does This Look Infected" is a commercial album but slightly more mature, "Chuck" is a turning point album but still too green and predictable... Sugarcult did the same thing in sequence: "Start Static," "Palm Trees And Power Lines," "Lights Out." In my opinion, we are facing a transitional album... neither more nor less. And by the next album, we will see if all this potential attributed to them is genuine or just the usual talk. Personally, I hope for a good effort from them.
