"For now, perhaps the reason why the Beatles and other groups still sell is the answer to many questions: could it be that the old ones are better than the new ones?" ----> no. They simply have a market today because they are the standard-bearers of the media, and record labels keep striking while the iron is hot. Certainly, people still think that the greatest rock bands of all time are Queen, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple... in fact, even worse, they truly believe that only they exist.

And yet, for sure, once the mainstream was more dignified, that's for sure. But the avant-gardes (understood in the broadest sense) have never walked hand in hand with the media, apart from spectacular exceptions, more unique than rare.

I felt called into question as a listener of certain works. @ Donnie: this is not about the tastes of "young people," I mentioned bands of artists contemporary to the Beatles, meaning when YOU were yyyyoung. @ Trota: I’ll note your gems, but tonight I hope Baptista cleanses you.

The one-two of 47 and Ghemison is a true gem...and Trota's assists are always crucial!

Donnie, the point you refuse to understand is this: public opinion is the epitome of anti-factual truth. And thus, it is also anti-art. Not solely because of its own faults, to be clear, but it is what it is. The bands I mentioned (which are niche to an extent) are remembered by those who love music simply and do not stop at sales records and charts, and who look a little beyond their father's old records. The Beatles were fundamental for the collective imagination and the customs, but psychedelia is another thing. I get worked up without restraint only when I feel unjustly accused of being a snob because I have the "misfortune" of listening to lesser-known works from less popular musical movements. And "somaramente" is an adverb that I don’t let attach to me easily. It seems to me that Primiballi (though he can deny it) doesn’t listen to anything that hasn’t firmly entered the collective imagination of the people, forcefully ignoring the underground of the last 50 years, even though he knows it exists. I don’t understand the reason for this. But then again, everyone can say and do what they want, as long as the terms are set. Easy said nothing compromising, and Primi responded: "But I find your position to be rooted in a snobbery and arrogance so pronounced that it is, in the end, tragicomic." Okay, and I find it tragicomic to talk about Modugno and Claudio Villa on the same page where Red Krayola is mentioned.

In the meantime, I've been listening to this cornerstone of psychedelia, and when Nothing Too Much Just Out Of Sight started playing, it sent chills down my spine for how fresh and original this track is.

Sure, another immense bullshit. If someone criticizes the Beatles, it's because they've listened to them "superficially and/or summarily"... and yes, because you really have to squeeze your brain to grasp the ultimate essence of a "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"... perhaps the one who should immerse themselves in the era of the Beatles is you, and start listening to people like Red Krayola, The 13th Floor Elevators, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, the same Floyd... a Sarceful of Secrets is devoured by Sgt Pepper's. Maybe this is too little radio-friendly for you, forgive me for mentioning them. Now all that's left is for you to bring up Toto and say they are better than Naked Raygun. But are you really sure it's others who listen superficially? What if you looked in the mirror and discovered you have donkey ears?

Alright Hardrock, you pretty much answered on my behalf to Donnie Darko, who plays the Indian and pretends not to get it. Now I'll be clearer: aside from the fact that I was referring to (!), and I didn't directly involve the charming DD, the whole snobbery and niche music story really pisses me off; it’s like hiding behind a finger, not knowing which way to turn. If someone criticizes McCartney and his pals, they automatically come off as a snob, and that’s truly ridiculous. But enough, a little honesty—if someone turns their nose up at Sgt Pepper's, it’s simply because they’ve listened to other stuff that’s probably better. Let everyone listen to what they want, but enough with the gratuitous accusations of snobbery. I certainly won’t feel guilty for not following the charts.

Of course I was referring to Trout... anyway, the progressive/avant-garde taste, as you call it, has always been the field of action, since the days of Trout Mask Replica. In fact, the greatest masterpieces have always emerged from the avant-garde, or rather, from an avant-garde attitude, so I don't understand why this progressive key should only concern today's bands. Sure, we've already established that this period is creatively bleak, but Battles are definitely the last ones to play simple revival; in fact, they are an anti-revival band. I don't understand why Mirrored should necessarily be just speculation with a cushioned butt and The Modern Dance a blooming flower. Of course, everyone can try to renew rock and reshape it as you say, but each will presumably achieve different results.
