BASTA has stated some sacred truths about DEEP PURPLE, partly Dark Side Of The Moon. As for the DT, we're just not on the same page.

No Adria, now we’re really not on the same page. Can you kindly explain to me what the hell DEEP PURPLE have to do with Dream Theater??? If anything, DT drew from Rush and especially from Yes (the true forerunners of DT)... but DEEP PURPLE? What does their hard rock have to do with it? Do you even know that DT plays progressive metal, or don’t you? Have you really listened to them? And how can you say that ALL OF THEIR ALBUMS ARE THE SAME... you’ve probably accidentally listened to 2 albums! If you had really listened to them, you’d know THAT EVERY ALBUM IS VERY DIFFERENT IN TERMS OF PRODUCTION AND STYLE from the previous one and the next one. But... if they convey passion to me, what do you want, huh?! And then WHAT FUTURE MUSIC ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT..... have you ever listened to Cynic or Spyral Architect? No, right? But.... do they pay you to speak badly of DT? :) Their sound, in conclusion, is ABSOLUTELY RECOGNIZABLE, both for better and for worse. I can recognize them instantly, at least. And then Portnoy has a truly unique touch, meaning he’s the first one I recognize when I hear something of theirs (I noticed it while Dark Side Of the Dream was playing through my ears)... Let’s not even start a conversation about this CD, please :)

Well, Images and Words and Awake (which you should listen to) are albums that don’t deserve the criticism they’ve received, especially the first one. A stuff like "Metropolis" and "Learning to Live," I’ve never heard composed and played by any other metal band (or maybe I have, since Pagan's Mind almost entirely plagiarized "Learning to Live" in one of their songs? Who knows why… ) I’ve listened to Porcupine Tree; I really like Deadwing, but The Sky Moves Sideways is a tribute to Pink Floyd, perhaps too much of a “tribute” — the style is identical to that of the Floyd. Regarding the guitarist, I’ve often wondered if it wasn’t Gilmour himself playing... in short, I'd rather listen to the PF without a doubt. As for DT, aside from some melodies, let’s say, recycled and reworked from the Pink Floyd, they have nothing to do with the PF... they are just two different styles, and it couldn’t be otherwise, since the overflowing technique of Dream Theater has nothing to do with the Floydian spirit. Originality, at this point, I believe is not OBJECTIVELY demonstrable (not always, that is). It depends on what you mean by originality. “They don’t have their own technique”? They definitely possess that, and the style as well (at least until SFAM). Labrie’s voice and singing align with Waters, huh?! Two completely opposing planets. Passion? Let’s not even go there; it’s like discussing the existence of God or not. They convey it to me, but not to you: what can we do? Of course, there are sooooooo many metal rock bands I’ve listened to, so please don’t tell me “try listening to this one or that one” because my answer is “already done,” and my opinion about DT hasn’t changed (not radically, that is) :)

Oh come no, Adria, are you saying that Queen is just stuff for kids? Could you kindly tell me HOW MANY albums you’ve listened to by Queen, apart from Radio Ga Ga and I Want It All? (which are songs, not albums, obviously). And I'm still waiting for your response about DT; I haven't forgotten...

Sorry Adriano Bernard, but I don't understand why you don't want to tell me the songs or albums by DT that you've listened to... Is it that your criticism towards them is the result of a passing trend that tends to belittle them, without you, in your case, having properly listened to them?
