What are you talking about? The first 4 Metallica albums are history. Just ask any decent and competent music critic, and you'll get confirmation. And above all, just listen to them on the stereo. Master of Puppets is THE METAL. If you think they suck, that's your problem. And don't come talking to me about the inferior technique of Metallica compared to today's bands, because that's a conversation for the mentally underdeveloped (and I’m counting on the fact that you are NOT underdeveloped). Anyway, Metallica is also technically superior to Fear Factory,... but I don't like talking about technique; I prefer to discuss the synthesis of their artistic proposal. I couldn't care less about the concepts of FF; just because someone creates a concept doesn't mean they've achieved the pinnacle of metal art, right?! Fear Factory are pretty good, though... but Metallica are HISTORY, remember that.

But usually, personal tastes are set aside (or at least an attempt is made to set them aside) when evaluating an album. That is the way a serious individual should approach it. A part of subjectivity always remains, but if I say that U2 didn’t invent anything in music, that they’ve shot out those 2 surefire ballads on every album and that's it, I don’t think I’m stating an illogical and nonsensical proposition. I have the entire discography of U2, and I consider them a significantly overrated band.

Scaruffi admits that Nile is the best death metal band around at the moment... however true or not such a statement may be, it suggests an importance and musical value for this band that goes beyond metal itself. In fact, giving a 7.5 to a brutal album means we're certainly not dealing with a simple ensemble of growls and heavy riffs.

For strangler: Blackwater Park is a gem in the Opeth discography, the Porcupine Tree master did a great job on that album.

Opeth are indeed superior to Dark Tranquillity, who, however, are certainly not to be underestimated.
