Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory

Shirubvr, I have a question for you, but you must answer me: Do you think it's possible to critique a group (rationally) without harboring resentment toward it? I eagerly await your response.

Alright, I don’t want to reopen the discussion, I know and love Foetus, Morphine, Chrome, Vampire Rodents, but I also appreciate the early albums of Metallica. Am I an idiot for this? The beauty is that Metallica kickstarted a certain metal and a certain type of punk expressivity within it, probably unconsciously, in their “ignorance,” and in their daily normality, and this makes them even greater.

The history of rock speaks for itself, my friend. Master of Puppets is up there, Load is down here.

But no, I can dislike something without hating it... or rather, "hate" (in a broad sense) may come later, after I didn't enjoy something. It's like saying that a review of an album is always equivalent to hate. It's not the same. A critique is just a critique. Then there's resentment... but resentment for what, excuse me? I don’t believe that the reviewer has suffered any personal wrong from the DT.

Ahah, but what hate? Can't this album just simply suck for someone? No, there has to be some hate involved... so the fans put too much "love" into talking about the Dt, let's put it that way...

vitols4, you can write, that's for sure. It’s just that that "I Can" threw my nervous system into a frenzy, as if "I Couldn’t" because I'm not a fan of the Beatles. Anyway, someone else in your place would have started insulting in front of my posts (maybe I myself would have responded poorly to someone who posted what I posted). You deserve a round of applause for your civility, well done. Even though I still don't agree with some essential points of your review.

"But with a good sound craftsman (George Martin, to use the first name that comes to mind...) it ends up that 'Abbey Road' emerges, that is, the zero year of modern music, do you see what I mean?"... Moreover, with this sentence, you hint that Abbey Road is mostly excellent production, and therefore an excellent formal presentation, but with musical content that isn't exactly outstanding, thus a masterpiece yes, but of aesthetics. "the zero year of modern music". When I read these few words, I started laughing for a quarter of an hour.

"I love Sir Paul, so let me be the one to speak ill of this album. I can, those who haven't shattered their eardrums with years of everything He has recorded should be quiet and show respect. Because we are talking about a great, perhaps the greatest of all time."... in this thought is encapsulated a synthesis of arrogance and probably terrifying incompetence. A dry 1.
