I'm not discussing how well-known Tool are, but rather the simple quality of the album itself. Undertow is better for me because it’s much less pretentious and cerebral, therefore less self-indulgent than Lateralus, where Tool take a step longer than their legs can handle. I see a forced sophistication in Lateralus with convoluted intertwining between bass and guitar, which feels very "alternative," but in most cases, it's only alternative in form. I find it lacking in expressiveness as an album, that's all. As for Through Silver in Blood, for me, it's an absolute masterpiece, the best album by Neurosis, perhaps a bit lengthy in terms of duration (it lasts a long time), but not in terms of the substance of that long duration. In fact, I believe the quality of the album can compensate for its perhaps excessive length. I've always considered that the artist's task is not necessarily to create an album that is easily digestible in terms of duration, but an album that is of at least good quality, even if that means creating a work that lasts 60 minutes. It then depends on what we find in those 60 minutes…

it didn't drive me crazy, a bit pretentious in the long run.

Umpf, what makes him listen to it all at once, I agree with Festwca. It drags on way too slowly and bores me, but Black Hole Sun is a notch above.

aerosiphon for me this album is absolutely mediocre to say the least, there is no "development of Pt's music" rather there is an evident regression compared to the early albums.. I see not a pleasant work but a trivial one, I see no talent but an absolute lack of ideas.. and "Fear of a Blank Planet" would be even worse, if it weren't for Anesthesize that somewhat rescues it... our visions are quite the opposite!

coolmaster the rock is definitely there, but you have to discern between the quality stuff and the not-so-great... and metal still exists today, albeit in mostly distorted forms, to be honest. I can only tell you that Wish you were here, a decent album, isn't even worth half of Rock Bottom, an exquisite and absolute masterpiece. And I dare say it's not a matter of taste...

I think it means "a good day to step off the stage," that is, to take one's own life.

But what the hell does progressive have to do with this now?? Did I mention progressive?? I said "progressive rock," not progressive! They are absolutely different concepts! Progressive in the sense of experimental, original, innovative, ALTERNATIVE, unconventional, underground... I’m talking about attitude, not genres. I’m talking about Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Pixies, Built to Spill, Neurosis, NIN, Dinosaur Jr, Mercury Rev, Tortoise, Battles, Fugazi, Morphine, Red House Painters... anything but the Beatles and Stones! No progressive, you really misunderstood. Of course, there are many prog albums I like from the past, but in the discussion I was having, progressive had absolutely nothing to do with it.
