Yeah man, I won’t deny that metal has been contaminated by french fries too, but it’s the way so many bands have approached this contamination that I don’t like: they often turn out to be overly formal academic hybrids, lacking substance. All bands that are technically more than competent, but not very "Rock." Ali, you know how much I love Neurosis (up to ASTNS), and I actually don’t mind Fear Factory... but I’ve never really been convinced by Isis, just like Tool for example (they’ve done good things for me, but nothing transcendent). Obviously, I was making a generalized statement. However, I was primarily talking about true innovations in metal, not "simply" pleasant metal albums.

But what does my mother have to do with it? Do you need a new mother because yours abandoned you when she realized you were born wrong? Did she reject you as her child? Daft, you will never get laid in your life, you know that, right?

Ouch, here comes the game of distortions... I never said that there haven't been innovations in metal, certainly less than you might think, though. I said that we should be cautious with the term innovation when talking about metal, because if there’s a branch of rock that has experienced fewer revolutionary shocks in recent years, it’s Metal. That doesn’t take away from albums like Into the Pandemonium for example, which are beautiful, or the first by Judas or others. Of course, if you consider bands like Mesasciuga to be revolutionary, well, what can I say, we have a different concept of revolution :-)
