It sounds like an update of Third by Soft Machine; it’s absurd how some structures sound identical. The magma-like layer from which the melody rises, the groove, or the intertwining of riffs, the cosmic keyboard slashes... as a main inspiration, I see the Softs, but it’s all very fresh and almost inhuman; these damn Mars Volta seem like robots... undecided on the rating between 4 and 5.

I saw a super trashy video of Patton singing for 8 minutes with gargles, screams, burps, and similar things. Really pathetic, it reminded me of the worst Axl Rose in his cheap delirium. Does he think he’s Meredith Monk? A certain dose of sedative and sitting down to study again wouldn’t do him any harm.

@Laggio: I really like the Can, but for me the best are Faust and Schulze... I find Kraftwerk a bit overrated and I can't stand Amon Duul II... :) The review is excellent, forget about the debaseridiots!!

Melvins + Residents + Zorn mixed together well and plam plam: Patton you missed the mark. I listen to a lot of "difficult" records, from Terry Riley to La Monte Young, passing through Steve Reich and Roach. But this isn’t "difficult," it’s just gratuitous arrogance; the avant-garde records worth having are others.

I find that the 5 discs are something else; in any case, for certain key suites like Hallogallo and Negativland, it would be a 6... Overall, a 4; in kraut I prefer other realities, like Tangerine Dream, Schulze, Can, Faust, Ash Ra Tempel. On the other hand, Amon Duul really get on my nerves.

I was cooking pasta, I added capers, olives, onions, and... pieces of banana. You can say it's something original or you can say it's a megamerdaimmangiabilecoglionimbecil stronzo that I shoved in there. Points of view.

I'm currently listening to Terry Riley, and I say Terry Riley is a true genius (along with the likes of La Monte Young, Cale, Conrad)... Patton is a show-off, and for anyone familiar with avant-garde records, his Fantômas are just fluff. Take the Residents, Negativland, and Melvins and blend them together; the result is something unappetizing and VERY overrated. Just stuff for beginners. I've never liked Patton; Tomahawk, his most decent group, is merely mediocre. Patton, step back.
