..had you read what Sonic Boom says about the sound of the track that gives its title to this EP? "WAR SUCKS sees the band psychedelically stormtroop through the Red Crayola classic accompanied by nebelwerfer strains - a kind of 'Stalin organ' used in WW2 by the Germans to invoke as much chaos, noise and fear as possible blended with the overhead scream of a Stuka dive-bomber. The combination of the over-driven guitar sound, crashing cymbals and apocalyptic vocal with these screaming sound effects makes for a unique & compelling sound experience."

I much prefer "Lift Yr. Skinny..." and even the debut "F#A#Infinity," but this is the most measured, dry, austere, and least cloying of their discography... A band I hold in high regard; it's a shame they don’t release anything more, except with Silver Mount Zion (not as good, in my humble opinion).

This EP is remarkable, but it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth because I would love to hear something longer. Have you perhaps listened to other albums by Spectrum? Did you see that they reissued the first album by Spacemen 3, "Sound Of Confusion," along with the live album "Performance"? I'm trying to find it to buy, but I only come across the single reissues and not the double CD.

After the initial excitement, my enthusiasm has slightly diminished with the listens, but it remains one of my favorite albums of this year (alongside the Oneida). I believe it's their best work, clearly surpassing Pilgrimage, which I unfortunately did not like, precisely because they managed to evolve while staying true to themselves. Perhaps there's a lack of a track like "On The Mountain At Dusk" or "Flight Of The Eagle," but I think Om's merit has been to unsettle and surprise without disappointing those who always considered them the same. Merry Christmas.

Dear Suonoonous, what I wanted to say is that, as much as Aphex Twin is among my favorite artists, I have always considered him a bit of a trickster!! Let me explain: it’s undeniable that he has talent (whether one enjoys it or not is another matter), but I believe that much of his success with a certain segment of the audience is due not so much to the quality of his works, but to his ability to craft a persona for himself, an aura of mystery that has made his music almost a status symbol ("I listen to Aphex Twin, therefore I am."). The character he has created is exactly as you say: eccentric, isolationist, egocentric, bizarre, and with the excuse of his way of being, he has allowed himself to release works that would normally have been rejected by most record labels and even achieve commercial success!! Think of a grotesque, nonsensical track like "Come To Daddy": it's a joke, but since it came from Aphex Twin (the crazy guy who makes music for himself), it managed to find success (not to mention the video, which is indeed very beautiful, by Cunningham). All of this makes me think of an artist with extraordinary talent who has produced epoch-making and beautiful records, but who is fundamentally insincere, a bit careless (in the sense that he releases whatever comes to his mind without polishing it, see the good album Drukqs), and, as I mentioned at the beginning, clever in creating hype around himself.

I don't completely agree with what you wrote, but you expressed it really well!! Well done!! The album "Selected Ambient Works II" is my favorite by Aphex Twin: listening to it all at once is impossible, but taken in small doses it's truly out of this world!! This track had slipped past me, and to think that I have practically everything by the twin...my fault!! Bye!

True, but if you had been here longer, you would know that they advise against it.
