Alright, I understand. However, I would choose the adjective "artists" rather than "musicians" as you do, so that people better understand what you mean instead of having to explain that when you say "the DT are not good musicians" you are referring to the artistic quality of the individuals. I didn't understand how you see that there are better musicians than them (as you said towards the end). Do you mean in terms of their artistic side or also technically? Because, for example, in the review of Metropolis, someone said "Phil Collins beats Porno' (Portnoy) 10 to 0"; I don't understand on what basis they could say that because in Genesis you don't hear those monstrous tempos that Portnoy shows. Maybe we're still talking about the artistic side? Anyway, I think that the artistic side can't be measured: either it's there or it's not!

Ah, here we go, because I've also found comparisons between jazz and prog in the review of Metropolis pt 2: two magnificent and incomparable styles. I would like to share my thoughts on an important matter: there is no better or worse (unless we are talking about personal tastes), but only good and bad. These 4 musicians are good, the album is good. Is there something better? Based on what criteria? I am genuinely curious to know what "better" consists of compared to "another good."

This is a genre (prog metal) that blends the power and edginess of metal with the virtuosity and complexity of prog. Good morning, it comes out a so-called "mess"; it's the genre itself that requires all this technique and all this "tamarrata" (as you say) or "bravura" (as we say).

I can agree with you, dear anonymous, about the almost complete absence of TRUE creativity from DT (and therefore from LTE); after listening to Yes, I understood that Yes + Metallica = Dream Theater just like 1 + 1 = 2. But I have to tell you one thing: I think you don't really appreciate "the piling up of virtuosities and hyper-fast scales that lack a sense of phrasing, pauses, and elegance." What you call "coarseness" is the beauty and ORIGINALITY of this band. I haven't listened to the CD you recommended (but I thank you for the suggestion and I will try to get it as soon as possible), but it seems to me that you're lacking the ability to let go of your world and be carried away by the music to then contemplate it. For example, how many times have you listened to this CD?

A note for the Nano-fans: there’s a concert in Reggio-Emilia and one in Udine on October 29 and 28, 2005. If you’re interested, check out the site of the nani-guerrieri; if you’re from Milan... figure it out!

Heh, heh! But no one is going to kill me for this, right? Also because it's a CD made for fun and the review too... and the comments! (ps: this comment is not serious)

And... dear cliffburton86, merging metal with pop (the will of the people) as Metallica have done TODAY is ABSOLUTELY not the way to move forward (musically speaking), but rather a way to unify music and make it IN THIS WAY meaningless and bland! For me, the Alcoholica have been gone for quite some time, abandoning expression and embracing commercialism, selling at all costs. (A small aside on your review of St. Anger).

Dear clayrudess and dear anonymous, I would like to point out that "abuse and excessive display of technique" is not a musical "crime"; rather, I believe that the excellent technique of the members of the aforementioned group should be showcased rather than hidden (it's there for that purpose!).
In fact, I think this is the true ORIGINALITY of Portnoy and company, in addition to being an important band for prog from a historical perspective: they are one of the bands that mark the Renaisssance of that (sadly) fleeting moment that was prog rock.
Moreover, I believe that blending various genres as Dream are doing is one of the few flashes of creativity that we can afford in this era. Until someone proposes something truly interesting nowadays, the only way to move forward in the history of music are these "insignificant" and "bland" little steps!

It seems to me that there are signs of "intolerance" towards the DT extended to the LTE on this page!
