the green, no offense, let's not say nonsense out of politeness, apart from the fact that you are ONLY judging the director BUT NOT the films and the content, so talking about gratuitous violence and sadism, this idea only develops in your mind, but do you know the term sadism? and perhaps "applied" in religion or the language of the people and traditions, instead of merging and confusing, make two clear distinctions between the images of Passion and Apocalypto, so your citing "The meaning of this is still unclear to me" I say for your vision, can you enlighten my path? thank you
