I don't agree with you because I also found this Mel's movie spectacular, and it's precisely the inflicted pain and repetition, along with the Aramaic dialogue, that make it complete. The flagellation represents pain, and the human error is the will to believe that one can change for the better. It's an attempt to bring to light the hatred that exists within humanity, and for me, he has succeeded entirely.

be aware that the film is not only based on the passion of Christ, as was the case in Mel Gibson's film, but is largely based on the life of Christ, thus encompassing the pains and struggles of every human being and, of course, the temptation of Christ as a human being. And so the soundtrack (by Gabriel) seeps into every pore of the skin, "narrating" an arc of human life; indeed, it is something extraordinary.
