You might have never heard what Death Angel was up to before this album. If you listen to "The Ultra Violence" played when they were fifteen, you’ll be blown away.

I can't give a precise judgment on the album I don't know, but regarding the band, I agree with you that they're often labeled as crap right away. I, who got to know metal music through power metal, discovered power metal thanks to Hammerfall, and for me, Hearts On Fire is still (after all this time) one of my favorite songs. Glory To The Brave is stunning, and I really like Templars Of Steele from the album Renegade, which I consider a nice album. No, I don't think Hammerfall is bad at all; sure, they don't push the limits infinitely, but I prefer them to those bands that fill their albums with slow and tedious medieval ballads like Blind Guardian, which – oddly enough – I have always sort of avoided, despite being a big fan of power metal back in the day. What else can I add? The Helloween cover "I Want Out" from the single I Want Out released in '99 is wonderful. As you can guess, I also like to defend this band, which in my humble opinion, within the realm they propose (regardless of how it's objectively considered), that is melodic medieval heavy metal, is not an unwelcome presence... in fact.

One of the few modern power bands that have raised expectations for the genre without making too many shameless compromises. Divine album.

let's say they are not exactly on the level of Slayer, even though "Imaginary Entity" can compete quite well with the heavyweights. There's plenty of technique, but not as extreme as we're used to with the more famous artists. To give you a general picture, maybe download Fatal Impact, which summarizes their style pretty well.

Nick, if you look at my profile, you'll notice that metal is my favorite genre, but I don’t consider myself a metalhead because I also love synth pop and new wave music, singer-songwriter, reggae raggamuffin hip hop, rock, electronica, even house why not, and... really everything except techno music and hardcore dance. I like music. And reggae is music.
